Barbara C. Bates

She was born in Detroit, MI, to the late Donald Churchill Bates of Philadelphia, PA and Sandra Keen Bates.

Barbara graduated from Mtn. Brook High School in 1984 and attended Auburn University. She worked at Mtn. Brook Board of Education in the Special Ed department and in accounting, until retiring in 2002. She spent her retirement years gardening, making jewelry, knitting, traveling and raising her beloved dog Mini and cat Max. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Barbara is survived by her grandmother, Florence B. Keen; mother, Sandra Keen Bates; brother, Donald Churchill Bates, Jr.; and uncle, Russell D. Keen of Atlanta, GA. She will be missed dearly by many and the family wishes to acknowledge the kindness of Terry Gargus who was of special help to her in her last years of life.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 29th at the Cathedral Church of the Advent (2017 6th Avenue North, Birmingham, AL). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the SMA Foundation or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
