Bernice Macknin Perlman, 87, died peacefully on November 2, 2019. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ben, whom she adored. She is survived by her sons, Gary, Steven, Brian (Karen), Max and Marc, grandchildren, Seth, Alex, Jamie, Anna and Olivia, sister, Roz Caplan and many loving nieces and nephews. The family sends love and appreciation to special caregivers, Viola Smith, Hope Pendleton, Carla Nickerson and Johnnie Moorer.
Bernice was born in Cleveland, Ohio but moved with her family to Birmingham. She attended Ramsay High School and went to College at LSU. In Birmingham, she met the love of her life, Ben Perlman, her husband of over 55 years. She enjoyed keeping the books at the family business, Leitman-Perlman, Inc., along with the bigger job of raising five sons. An avid game player, Bernice enjoyed mah jongg, bridge and canasta with her many friends. She and Ben loved travelling nationally and internationally and she was a noted whiz at New York Times crossword puzzles.
A private family graveside service will be followed by a memorial service and shiva at Temple Emanuel on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at 12:00 noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Collat Jewish Family Services.
