Donna Lou Harrell

Donna Lou Harrell, 64, of Birmingham, born February 2, 1958 in Anniston, Alabama, passed away Friday, May 6, 2022. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2022, 10:00 to 11:30 with service to follow at Hope Community Church (formerly McElwain Baptist Church) with private burial in Anniston, Alabama. Donna’s early life began in Anniston, Alabama where she had a happy childhood. She was born to two wonderful parents, William Lamar Harrell and Nettie Lou O’Donnell Harrell. Her brother William Lamar Harrell (Bill), was a focus point in her life and they loved to take trips together and golf as often as they could. She attended Woodstock Elementary until the 6th grade and was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She then moved to Saks where she attended Saks High School. After a brief return to Anniston High School, she decided that her heart was with the Saks people. She loved her high school friends (who she still met with regularly) and was voted “most fun loving” by the senior class. Upon graduating in 1976, she attended UAB nursing school where she went on to work in the UAB Emergency for over 25 years, where she received the Clinical Nurse Excellence Award. She then took a position in UAB Employee Health. She loved to travel, hike, take long walks and was an avid reader. She loved life, was a true Christian and dedicated her life to the Lord. She was a generous, charitable person and was always giving of her heart and time to others. She was full of joy and laughter and had many life-long friends. She had special love for her sweet LuLu of 16 years, who she gave so much love and dedication to. She was a member of McElwain Baptist Church. Pallbearers are Justin Rush, Terry O’Donnell, Jimbo Williams, Tony Debellis, Lee Bowman and Ron Kennedy. Services are being directed by Johns-Ridout’s Southside Chapel.
