

Sept. 6, 1931-May 6, 2017 Fey Darling Fraser Rumbarger, born September 6, 1931 in Birmingham, AL to the late Rebecca Otey Fraser and Oliver Weston Fraser of Birmingham, passed peacefully in her sleep on May 6. She was a graduate of Phillips High School, and went on to attend Stephens College and finished her degree at Auburn University in Home Economics. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She grew up on Birmingham's Southside, and after college went on to teach school in Columbus, GA where she met and married, Dave Rumbarger. After stops in Oklahoma, Ohio and Georgia, the couple returned to Birmingham in 1969 to raise their family in her hometown. They carried on that love affair for almost 60 years. All of her life she put her degree and ingenuity to work making homemade jellies, watermelon pickles, preserves and canning vegetables. She was an excellent mother, provider and was skilled at mastering any recipe. All family favorites, her specialties included oatmeal-raisin cookies, chocolate drip cake, chicken Kiev and cordon bleu, and "Fey's lasagna". She was an exceptional seamstress and created heirlooms for all her children and grandchildren with beautiful hand-sewn pieces. She enjoyed gardening and loved plant identification learned from her father. Her faith in Jesus Christ was a very important part of her life and she was a member of Third Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters-Jean Elliot (Rufus), Rebecca Cater (Frank), Mary Ford (O.L.), Edith (Bill), and brother, O.W. Fraser (Faye). She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, David P. Rumbarger and her four children: David Rumbarger, Jr. (Donna), Toby Rumbarger (Beth), Lucie Morrisroe (Neil), Peter Rumbarger (Holley) and ten grandchildren: Rudy Rumbarger (Marley), Sarah-Fey Rumbarger, Rebecca Rumbarger, Mary Larkin Rumbarger, Kasey Rumbarger, Kate Morrisroe, Rachel Morrisroe, Anna Rumbarger, Simon Rumbarger, and Steven Morrisroe. In lieu of flowers, memorial should be made to the American Cancer Society. A celebration of life service is planned for Wednesday, May 10 at Third Presbyterian Church with visitation at 10 A.M. and service at 11 A.M, followed by a private family graveside internment.
