

George E. Mitchell passed away on February 1, 2015 at his home at age 81. George is survived by his wife Tamara Olen Mitchell; sons Mike Mitchell of Fairhope and John (Kandi) Mitchell of Mobile; mother-in-law Harriet Olen of Daphne; brother-in-law Steve (Sharon) Olen of Daphne; niece Beth (Beth Sheppard) Olen and grandnieces Frankie and Nora Olen of Durham, NC; nephews Eric (Lauren) Olen of San Diego and Christopher Olen of Daphne; grandson Jeremy (Jessica) of Prattville; granddaughter Jennifer Mitchell; many cousins including Dr. W. H. (Helen) Abraham of Meridian, his daughters and their families and Dr. Ralph (Mary) Abraham of Hattiesburg, their children Jennifer and Ralph (Carla); the White family of Mobile; and many close, loving and devoted friends in the Blount County, Birmingham and Mobile communities. George’s beloved mother and father, Katherine and George; son, George Mack; and grandson, Matthew preceded him in death.
George was an avid horseman all his life. He trained horses, bought and sold them, participated in rodeos, owned a board barn and participated in horse shows as a judge and a competitor. He was an accomplished horseshoer who specialized in foundered horses. He taught horse care classes at Springhill College in Mobile. After retiring he obtained his auctioneer’s license and also opened and operated a western tack store.
George loved his family and friends, enjoyed life, had a wonderful sense of humor, and lived a remarkable life that touched and impacted many.
George’s physicians all demonstrated skilled care, compassion and professionalism that substantially extended George’s life and also provided the best quality of life available. The family is extremely grateful to these physicians, their staff and the nurses at St Vincent’s Birmingham.
The family is very appreciative for the overwhelming outpouring of care, concern, assistance and comfort extended by friends, neighbors and the entire bankruptcy community.

Friends are invited to visit the family at George and Tamara’s home on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM or at Johns Ridout’s Funeral Parlor in Birmingham on Southside on Thursday, February 5, 2015 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Burial will be at Pinecrest Cemetery in Citronelle, Alabama on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Arrangements under the direction of Johns-Ridout's Funeral Parlors, Birmingham, AL.
