Harry Costa Pasisis Sr

26 July, 19299 January, 2020

Harry Costa Pasisis, age 90, died peacefully at home on January 9, 2020. Born in Passaic, New Jersey, and raised in Jamaica, New York, Harry was the youngest of three sons. He is predeceased by his mother Anna, father Costa, and bothers George and Bill. After high school graduation, Harry served in the U.S. Army. In 1953, he married the love of his life, Tasia Isariotis. After their wedding, Harry managed the family business, Tom's Coneys, for 31 years. He loved being at the heart of downtown Birmingham, as Tom's was a local favorite. Long recognized as one of the Greek community's out-standing cooks, he and Tasia built a catering business, Harry's Of Course. For 13 years, he then served as head chef at Connie Kanakis' Cafe and in his later years worked at Jim n' Nick's. He was a member of the Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He was devoted to his church, and for 35 years he is fondly remembered in the Greek community for preparing the traditional mayeritsa, a special lamb soup, served to parishioners anxious to break their fast after attending the Greek Easter resurrection service. He is survived by his three sons, Gus, Tom (Gina), and Harry Jr. (Suzanne); three beloved grandchildren, Tommy (Brittany), Caroline, and Sloan; sister-in-law Stella Cocoris Agras (Aris); one nephew, George Agras; three nieces, Laura Jagodzinski (Andy), Georgette Heerwagen (John) and Katie Schlueter (Drew), great-nieces Stella Schlueter, Christine Heerwagen and Katy Schweers; and great nephews Lukas, James, and Alexander Schlueter and dear family friend Lynn Alexander. Honorary pallbearers: Ernest Stevens and Connie Kanakis. Pallbearers: Pete Triantos, Pat Lynch, Sam Standrod, Dean Triantos, George Agras, Tommy Pasisis and Nick Ropollo. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 12, from 5 - 7 p.m., followed by a Trisagion service at Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church. The funeral will be held Monday, January 13 at 11a.m., followed by interment at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

Harry was a classic gentleman. His dignity and character are memorialized in his three sons, all of which possess the same traits. May His Memory Be Eternal.

We will miss our buddy Harry. Lots of great memories with harry, tasia and the boys over the years! He was always such a sweet and kind man who was always happy to see you, and spend time chatting. I remember going to his hot dog stand downtown as a child, and always loved seeing him when y'all would come to our house for various family gatherings over the years. My heart is warmed knowing he is up there reunited with tasia, and they were not apart long. May his memory be eternal! With love, Peyton, Peter, Michael, Dorothy, and the entire McDaniel family
