STAHL, JAMES J., passed away Easter morning, April 4, 2010. Born in Brooklyn, New York, September 18, 1929, to Harry and Rose Stahl, he was the second of three boys. Jim married Katherine (Kay) Keuning in 1950 and they shared a wonderful life. A banker for most of his professional career, he moved to Birmingham in 1973, accepting an executive position with The First National Bank of Birmingham. He enjoyed his career but at the age of 62 he dove headlong into retirement, and never looked back. Jim and Kay took the cruises, world travels, and vacations they had so earned after working and raising 5 children. They never missed a significant event in the lives of their 10 grandchildren. His wife and family will miss him dearly. They know his family was always the proudest accomplishment of his life. Jim is survived by Katherine Stahl, his wife of 59 years; 5 children: Diane vonGerichten of Durham, NC, James J. Stahl, Jr. (Kathleen) of Raleigh, NC, Patricia Conner (Kip) of Mt.Airy, MD, Robert Stahl of Birmingham, and Richard Stahl (Elizabeth) of Birmingham. He is also missed and loved by his grandchildren, Tracy Bohlen (Brent), Kristen vonGerichten, Karen Conner, Amy Saxby (Ryan), Jessica Stahl, James J. Stahl, III, Kaitlin Stahl, Joseph Stahl, Brian Stahl, and Katherine Stahl, and one great grandchild, Karli Gail Bohlen. Visitation at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church is Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 1:30pm followed by a funeral mass at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests you celebrate Jim's life by tasting a beer you've never tasted before and/or by making a donation to your favorite charity in remembrance of James J. Stahl.
