There is an area on top of the public side of the service desk in youth department at Avondale Library that used to, from 3:05pm to closing, stay a little grubby and smudged. It is where the children, fresh from a run down the hill after school, would stop; rest their hands and say, “Hey Miss Margaret”. She will be missed.

ms. margaret, i would like to thank you for unknowingly helping me find my passion. when you chose me to represent avondale library for the summer reads, you didn't know that i would pursue a life in acting. your impact has been great in my life and you will not be forgotten.

I count you as a dear friend and mentor.  I only worked at Avondale for  two years and a half years, but contiued to call on you through the years I'v worked for The Birmingham Library System.  I will miss you deeply.

How nice its been over the last few years to get to take my daughter to Avondale library, where I grew up going, to see Ms. Margaret, just as I did as a child. With the quantity of children that the children's library staff at that library come in  contact with, I'm astonished that she even remembered me 15 years later. But she always remembered and greeted me when she saw me, and I will always fondly remember her!

Ms. Margaret was my mentor.  She taught me the library, love, and made me a teacher.  Every Forest Park Child has a Ms. Margaret story.  Here is mine: Weekends my sister and I walked to a local restaurant, and Ms. Margaret was there.  She’d remember us, our books, and lead a stimulating ten-year-old book club. (It must have been impossible to have a meal alone with a town full of children who love you.)  One week Ms. Margaret was bussing tables. A waitress had an emergency and Ms. Margaret finished her shift.  No questions asked.  She reminded us to tip, and she passed that tip on to a neighbor in need. I can only imagine the numbers of children Ms. Margaret has influenced.  I know I am one.

Margaret was my childhood librarian in the late 60's and early 70's. She helped me through Children's Literature in college. She gathered books for me to use in my classroom for many years. When the time came, she helped my children to acquire their library cards and encouraged them in their reading. She was very dear to me. Please know that she will be missed.

Continue to be encouraged from Margaret's life enriching contributions of love, joy, and unselfish support to adults and children alike.  I have truly enjoyed knowing her as a co-worker and friend.

I met Margaret in the early 60's while working as a summer worker at the Avondale Library.  She never changed, excep to get a little older.  She loved her job - working with the children in the area and being a part of the library family.  In the great scheme of things, she will be sorely missed.

Miss Margaret was a wonderful, sweet lady.  We always loved seeing her at the library and we'll really miss her.

Miss Margaret is who I think of when I think of the library. I am so glad that she not only helped me, but she also helped my daughter. She is already missed.

I had the privilege of working with Margaret at Avondale Library 1979-1981.  She was a true humanitarian in every sense of the word.  Whenever or wherever I saw her she was always the same.  She would often call me at Pratt City Library just to say "hello".  I last saw her grocery shopping in Wal-Mart.  We had a lengthy conversation before her retirement. Margaret was both a co-worker and a friend to me for many years. She was there for me through the roughest times in my life. She was truly a great person and I will miss her!

Margaret was a light for many people. She gave joy and happiness to all of us fortunate enough to be touched by her friendship and/or love. Margaret loved her jewerly and loved to accessorize, Diva that she was. She will be missed by me. She's one of God's Angels now. Rest in Peace Margaret.
