Martha Vernell Gilbert

Martha Vernell was born to William Henry McLeroy and Clytie Ester Wooten

McLeroy on April 26, 1928. She lived most of her life in the

Corner, Alabama area. She was an involved member of the

community and a long-time active member of her church, Mt.

Zion Baptist Church. She will be missed greatly by her family and

friends.

Martha Vernell is preceded in death by her husband, Louton

Gilbert; daughter, Arbis La Donna Gilbert Burton; parents,

William Henry and Clytie McLeroy; brothers, Thomas McLeroy,

Elmer McLeroy, Delbert McLeroy, Doyle McLeroy and John

William McLeroy; sisters, Amy Lee Jackson, Katie Bee Motte,

Doris Willodean Hughes, Laura Lovell Campbell, Mattie Lou

Pierce, and Ora Lee Armstrong.

Martha Vernell is survived by her grandson, Richard Gilbert

Burton, his wife Miranda Lee McPherson, and her three great granddaughters, Peri, Cooper, and Maddox; as well as many

nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

In lieu of a funeral service at this time, the family ask that you

consider donating to Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Corner,

Alabama, or to the church/charity of your choice in the memory

of Martha Vernell McLeroy Gilbert.
