I have so many good memories of Michael, it would be too difficult and sad to try and pick a favorite. Suffice it to say that I feel very fortunate to have known him. We shared a love of similar music,  and art and humor and odd things and addiction. I was lucky, I beat my addiction. I've been sober for sixteen years. I wish I had been able to help Michael. But the truth is, I don't know any secret formula or special prayer or anything of the sort that keeps me sober. I've no idea why the powers that be elected to save me. I only wish they had saved Michael as well.
I always thought that we'd both grow old and run into each other from time to time. We'd talk about all the crap we did, we would laugh that we had ever been so careless. Then we would be thankful that we had lived through it. Michael, I wish you had lived through it too.
You are thought of and missed every single day my friend. I know that I'll never meet another beautiful soul like you. People like you have to be so rare. If you were not, the world would be a much nicer place. Take care Michael, I hope to see you again in another life , a better life.....

Michael, I miss you so damn much even though I haven't seen you in years. Our time at the Mazurosa was and is one of the most wonderful ever.  The night you and I "slept" together almost 30 years ago in that awful storm is my fondest memory of you. I love you and miss you more than you can imagine

I didn't know him but Mark is an acquaintance. I'm so sorry for your loss. I feel compelled to say we need more obituaries like this that shed light on what social callousness can do to us, as well as the illness of addiction. Very brave and honest send-off.

I didn't know Michael but after I read his obituary, I cried like I had known him all of my life. If only the world could be as open minded and honest as his obituary. Michael was my cousin whom I only met once. His grandfather, Mike was my fathers brother, Pete Mazur. Uncle Mike was from Pittsburgh and his parents moved to Toledo before my dad was born. Lots of family back up north. Prayers and thoughts for his family.
