

Dr. Raymond Allen Hamilton II, (Col, ret.) of Auburn, AL, died February 16. He was born December 25, 1939, in Hobart, OK, to Raymond Allen Hamilton and Myrtice Leon Singley. He graduated from Toppenish High School in 1958 and from the USAF Academy in 1963. Ray served the USAF 27 years, retiring as full colonel in 1990 with 5,000+ flying hours (300 combat). He flew 73 recon missions during the Vietnam Conflict; commendations included the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was dean of USAF Air War College at Maxwell AFB. At United Airlines he received an FAA airline transport pilot and turbojet flight engineer ratings. He completed a PhD from the University of Ala. in 1990. He worked for the University of Okla. as director of advanced programs. Since 2000, he was associate professor of aviation policy at Auburn University. Preceded in death by wife Malissa Duggan of Albany, GA; he is survived by son Monte Rex and wife Pamela and granddaughter Lily, of Birmingham, AL; daughter Christine of Fort Collins, CO; sister Alice Anne Holland of Chicago, IL; and a loving extended family. Memorial service is Friday, February 22, at Shades Crest Baptist Church, 452 Park Avenue, Birmingham, AL, 35226. Visitation begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by a service at 7 p.m. Burial at USAFA, TBD.
