
Shaheen John "Johnny" Erben, born April 30, 1932, left this Earth on February 7, 2014, after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. A native of Birmingham, Shaheen moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1974. In his earlier years, Shaheen played professional baseball, was a singer/entertainer and recording artist for twenty-five years, and acted in films before becoming involved in the restaurant business. Shaheen, or Johnny as some knew him, later became one of the top salesman for Paul Piazza & Son, a seafood company in New Orleans. A man of incomparable charm and charisma, Shaheen never met a stranger and was adored by many. He will be dearly missed by those closest to him, who cherished his life and big heart. He is predeceased by his father and mother, Betros and Jamilia Erben, and siblings James, Essa, and Joseph Erben, and Elizabeth Fardeecey. He is survived by his brothers, Nick and Fred Erben, as well as his loving companion and dearest friend, Linda Poirrier, of Kenner, Louisiana, along with her children, Jeanne (Don) Renda and Brian (Bonnie) Poirrier and her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Visitation will be held at Holy Trinity Holy Cross Cathedral, Thursday, February 13th 2014, from 5-7 PM, followed by the Trisagion Service. The funeral will be held at Holy Trinity Holy Cross Cathedral, Friday, February 14th 2014, at 11:00 AM, with grave side service following immediately thereafter at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Holy Trinity Holy Cross Cathedral or to the American Cancer Society . On Sunday, February 16, 2014, there will be a memorial for family and friends at 2:00 PM, and a prayer service at 3:00 PM at L.A. Muhleisen & Sons, located at 2607 Williams Blvd, Kenner, Louisiana 70062.
