Sherwood “Woody” Millard Cohen of Birmingham, 85, passed away January 9, 2021. Born in Brooklyn, New York October 3, 1935, to Harry Eli and Beatrice Swerlick Cohen, Woody never left his New York roots far behind often speaking of his youth and the great city he grew up in. Woody went to Lowell Technological Institute in Lowell, Massachusetts before enlisting in the United States Army in 1954. Stationed in England, he met the love of his life and wife of 64 years, Pamela Hartman. They married in England and moved to New York in 1956 and then to Birmingham, Alabama in 1961 where they raised their family, loved Birmingham and considered their lifelong friends, part of their extended family.
Woody was a creative artist, whether it was his leisurely impressionist painting or designing jewelry when he was in the accessory business with his wife and two of his children. His art will remain treasures to his family. Woody never met a stranger and his creativity and humor will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
His greatest joys in life were his family. His adoring wife, Pamela. His three children Stacey (Scott) Dulin, Adam (Brenda) Cohen, Stuart (Cason Benton) Cohen. His 10 grandchildren Sydney (Edward) Aldag, Harrison Dulin, Rebecca Cohen, Rachel Cohen, Lauren Cohen, Sara (Daniel) Morris, Eli Cohen, Ada Cohen and the special twinkle in his eye great-granddaughter Gwendolyn Blair Aldag.
