Thank you mom for always doing your best and giving your best, for always being there, for always loving me. When I needed you if you were able, you were there. You always made sure of that. Even during the last week you were here on earth when I was sick with Covid, you were so sweet and thoughtful to ask me if I needed anything and how I was feeling despite your own health condition. I’ve learned a lot from you throughout life and the past few years. You cared a lot for people and made sure you did what you could to see the next person smile, even in your weak moments, you made sure you found the energy and strength to show love and kindness to those around you. You didn’t ask for much, you were just happy to be here and with us, especially your grandkids…thank you for all that you’ve done for me mom. Thank you for always encouraging me throughout the years. I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to have spent the last few years with you. I miss seeing you on the porch when I come home from work, hearing you laugh and scream and the top of your lungs on the phone, crushing ice in the kitchen all hours of the day and night, turning the tv up as high as the volume would go and so many more little things you did around the house will be missed daily. It was the little things that made you happy each day, and I saw that in you. I will not miss seeing how exhausted you were after dialysis treatments, taking all those pills, medical appointments, etc. This is when I say thank you Jesus, my Heavenly Father  for taking my mommy’s  pain away, I trust you to take my pain away too.  I love you.


When I think of a fond memory of my auntie who I call Tah-Tee. I’m reminded of all the times we made pallets in her living room on the carpet. Sitting in front of a glowing TV screen watching reruns of old black and white TV shows like: Alfred Hitchcock, Twilight Zone, and I Love Lucy. I was maybe between 8-10 years old at the time (Currently 35 years old). When watching the sitcoms if something especially funny happened she would throw her head back and let out a full belly laugh. She would crack up! The cackles would drown out the TV character’s next lines. I’m sure at the time I would have rather watched something else but Tah-Tee was always skilled in negotiation or persuasion. She would make a bowl of popcorn and have other snacks on stand-by. I would curl up next to her and eventually fall asleep to her boisterous commentary, “Watch this Dlee this is the good part!”


Depending on the space and time you knew her we likely all experienced and remember different versions of her. But we can all agree that she was the head navigator in her life, a social butterfly, networker, resilient, and unflinching.  

She was always in the mix, on the scene, handling her business and even “in your business.”

But family SHOULD be in your business. If family wasn’t in your business they wouldn’t be called family, they would be called strangers. If she made it a point to “be in your business,” you were considered family and you were loved.

Cynthia was such a big part of our lives , I’m so happy  and honored to have had  her share her love with me and she treated me like her own son for many years. I will miss her dearly, rest in peace and I’m sure you will continue to look after all of us from heaven. I love you so much !

My dear cousin Cynthia, I’m going to miss you so much. In the past couple of years we became really close cousins. I’m going to miss all the fun times we had spent with each other. I’m going to miss us talking at least five times a day or our phone calls at 2AM.  I will never forget the last time you came all the way to my home on your way to dialysis, you looked at me and told me that you loved me. I’m gonna miss you so much you always called me butterfly and I’m going to cherish that name forever. I love you my dearest cousin and I will see you again one day .

P.S. You always said, “I want you to sing Lord don’t move the mountain at my funeral.” I sang for you when I came to say my goodbyes, I hope you were pleased. I'll always remember you when I sing that song. You're better off than us now your struggle is now over with the world and troubles of this life. I love you girl, and no one can ever take your place

Scooky, although you are gone away from us, you’re forever in our thoughts and hearts. I remember you were always the brains of us three. We would come to you with our homework, and you would fight for us if needed. You were always a cool and sexy dresser, with the nice figure to match. You were always popular with everyone in school and all around, you kept up with everybody everywhere. You were always the queen in our BYPU we hosted with Cousin Steve on Sunday nights, I remember you always beat us remembering all the books of the Bible! You even recited the whole night before Christmas play as a child by memory without notes or anything! That's the smart Big Sister I knew and loved. I remember you use to come pick me and Tracie up and take us joy riding in Maine’s 68 Chevy blasting all the oldies like the song “I’m so proud of being loved by you”. I can recall when you would let us stay the weekends with you at your apartment in Compton, we sure had fun then as youngins. You are gone from us physically but not mentally. Scooky I'm really going to miss you, the catch-up conversations we'd have periodically and the fall outs we'd have to (as siblings do). Nothing compares to the love we had for each other! Come hell or high water no one could come between us. You left behind three beautiful smart young ladies who are blessed to have had you as a mother and four grandchildren who love you and will miss you very much. You are gone but you live in every one of your children and siblings. So, I'm sad that you're gone from us forever, but I truly know your struggle is over now girl! No more pain, heartache, or sleepless nights. More importantly no more dialysis!!!!! We will greatly miss you. We know you’re at peace with the Angels, God said no more suffering Scooky and called you home. Now you’re with Mommie, Dearest, John, Asaya, and all our loved ones who have gone before us. It’s your turn to have her lil cousin she’s old and frail so don’t break her till I get up there with y’all 

My cousin Cynthia would ALWAYS greet with a smile and a hug. Such a loving person. 

This is so hard for me as I sit here thinking about my wonderful cousin. Three days before she passed away, I called her. She was on my mind real heavy. We would always talk about the Lord. She would never complain about anything to me about her sickness. She had lot of faith and was very strong. Through it all, she gave me alot of respect. She taught her children to call me Mama Wilma and now they teach their children the same. That was a great honor to me. I called her my daughter and she was my favorite cousin. I love you. I could not believe she passed away that fast. I just talked to her. She was so happy. She would never hang up the phone until she said I love you and I would tell her I love her too. 
She was a member of Greater Brighter Star Missionary Baptist Church for many years and she loved the church.  I Believe In my heart she was going to come back to Greater Brighter Star. She sang with the youth choir for many years and assisted Pastor Steve. We would have Christmas plays and she was a very good actress. I have a lot of precious memories of us when we were growing up. God knows I'm going to miss talking to her over the phone and her texting me pictures. I could go on and on but there is not enough time. On 11/6/22, God saw a beautiful carnation on this Earth and picked her but to die is to live again. No more chains holding her . It's just a blessing Hallelujah. She's free. I love you my cousin/daughter.  I love you Cynthia but God loved you more. I don’t want to say goodbye, but I will say farewell. Her favorite song I'm going up yonder to be with my Lord. She'd love to hear her sister sing that song. She was a beautiful cousin. I love you all. No Grave can keep me in the ground. I love you my cousin/daughter. When the battle is over, we will shout for victory too. She will always be in my heart, resting in the Lord.  Let's keep the family in prayer, that God will give them strength in their time of bereavement 🙏🏿❤️‍🩹💔

A mother in-law is what you started off as and became so much more. When the in-law part faded you were there just as a mother loving her child. I needed a place to stay you gave me a room in your home. When I needed a ride to work you would take me and pick me up. If you hit big at the casino and I wasn't there you'd call me and tell me to come get what you was giving me. I remember getting us fired from a job and you not making or letting me feel bad about it. You said you'd rather have gotten fired for taking me home than for me to end up in jail. When the in-law part faded you were just a mother loving her child. Even after I moved to Texas you would call and message me saying hey son just checking on you. I thank you and appreciate the love you had for me just a mother loving her child. I love you MOM you will forever be missed your son Qujuan 

“Deda get over here and give me a hug you know you didn’t speak to me” I can hear you now! Haha and I just hadn’t made it to you yet! I have known you since I was a little girl,  and it was always a pleasure to be around you. You were always ready to party and I was always here for it! You will be greatly missed! May you continue to rest! 

I am still at a loss for words. The one good thing about memories is that no 1 can take them from you one of my fondest memories is when we pick you up from the airport in Kansas City and drove home to Wichita and you were just in awe about the Flint hills of kansas and how green it was. Sissy I love and miss you. My faith knows that God makes no mistakes so he called you home to be a angel by his side. Your lil sissy Gigi ❤🌹🌹

Hi Grandmother, I am at a complete loss for words. I never thought this day would come. Just wanna know, why God wouldn't let you stay for a little longer. When we were talking the night before you passed I didn't think that when we said bye I was actually saying goodbye forever, if that makes sense. I remember when Journee, Alahna, and I were putting globs of Vaseline and lotion on you and Alahna was the surgeon, I was the doctor, and Journee was the nurse. It was so fun for all of us to hang out and Journee said you were shinier that a baby's booty. Its still hard to believe that I was the last person you talked to. I don't think of this as goodbye just more of a see you later. Save me a front row seat to a Sam Cooke's concert and we can sing Chain Gang and Twisting The Night Away. I will always love you ❤️.

To all family and friends I am sorry we share this loss.  Cynthia’s love and respect for me was a special thing.  The way her and my mom would sit, talk and laugh made you want to be around. Just as my mom got hugs and kisses,Cynthia  got them from me also.  I don’t like that I have to write about what she used to be.  May God look after her and the good times, smiles and laughs ease the pain.  I love you Cynthia.

One of my many memories came to mind, I told Scooky she was writing her life story ( best seller of course) and she was on Chapter 5,000 of her book!  We would laugh because we knew she had lived an extraordinary life in deed.

A Letter For Grandmother
Dear grandmother,
I'm not sure what to say, The hurting hasn't gotten better. You left before I could say goodbye. I know you won't get this letter. Your life just fell too short. I thank God that you're no longer in pain. I just wish God would explain,  Why you couldn't be here anymore. You've taught me so much, How to love and how to cook my favorite chili you always made, or the macaroni for thanksgiving even though mine never tasted like yours. I will never forget all the times your would come pick me up when I would get in trouble for something. You would always bail me out of everything. I will never forget how you always let Munchie, Journee, and I pile up in your bed at night even when we had our own. Your would always cuddle us and make sure we all had enough room even if you were smashed between us. I will miss taking you to the grocery store and being there for at least four hours so that you can go through every aisle just to pick out stuff your don’t even eat. By the end the basket would be filled with only snacks. There is so much more I wish I could’ve done differently. I wish we could hang out one last time. See you later Grandmother, I love you so much grandmother. You've forever touched my heart, but my heart will forever ache. At least I know I have another angel watching over me.

My name is Charles Berry Hill, I met Cynthia at church before the Pandemic, New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in San Bernardino.  We developed a casual friendship and would talk about a variety of different things, like how she like to ride horses and that she was a fan of the cowboys. One of the last thing we talked about, how it would be nice see her face in church again and she said you will soon.
