Lucille Jackson Robison was born August 21, 1922 in Ripley, California the third of fourteen children, eight girls and six boys, to Jason and Lula Mae Jackson. She was raised on a farm in the neighboring town of Blythe, and graduated from Palo Verde High School in 1940.
At the tender age of 18, Lucille traveled to Salinas, CA to attend an art academy. After completing a rigorous academic program she returned to Southern California. Working in ammunition development during World War II, in Riverside, CA, Lucille met and after a brief courtship married Sam Howell in 1943. They settled in Riverside and were blessed with three children, Sammie Lee, Willie Paul and Linda Louise. In 1948 after an extensive bible study in the Casa Blanca home of William and Mary Downs, Lucille committed her life to Christ and was baptized. In 1949 she was blessed with the birth of a fourth child, David.
In 1951, she purchased her Casa Blanca home from her sister Louise and brother–in-law Willie Carter. She married Jessie Robison in 1952 and gave birth to son Edward in 1954. Lucille was a tireless and often sole provider for her family. A “Jill of all trades” she truly believed that she could do anything-often quoting Philippians 4:13. Over her lifetime she was an artist, farmworker, care provider, seamstress, house painter, upholsterer, wallpaper hanger and entrepreneur.
Concurrent with providing for her family, Lucille’s utmost priority was training her children up in the Lord- teaching them to always put God first. A highly skilled bible scholar and teacher, she tried to live a transparent Christian life and use teaching methods that were real- relevant and easy to understand. Her favorite bible verses were 2 Timothy 2:15 and Proverbs 4:7. She was a tireless worker for Christ whose goal was to bring people to the Lord then support and nurture their Christian development. She enjoyed person work classes, lectureships, fellowships, workshops, gospel meetings and embraced any opportunity to “sharpen her sword” to serve God better.
Lucille loved to play games and sports with her children. She was a fierce competitor who enjoyed activities that were physically demanding. She would occasionally enjoy a television show or movie with her children. More than anything though, she loved to talk about Jesus and God’s Perfect Plan for Salvation, to anyone who would give her an audience.
The life of sister Lucille Robison came to a peaceful close September 23, 2012. She was ninety years old when she passed on to be with her Lord and Savior. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jason and Lula Mae, husbands Sam Howell and Jessie Robison, daughter Sammie Riley and five sisters, Nora, Louise, Gladys, Mabel, Ludella and five brothers, Paul, Jason, Walter, Hosea and Henry.
