I remember the last party we attended together and someone asked in Yoruba 
Iya lara ojo wo le bi omo yi(when did u give birth to this one as we don't know her) , u looked and smiled,right there I thought you were going to say,she isn't my child, but instead u took it up and replied in Yoruba and you said, nigba ti o si ni Nigeria bawo lo se fe mo iye omo ti MO bi(you are not based In Nigeria, how do u want to know how many children I have) 
Right there, I was amazed at what kind of heart you've got 
I call you mum today, I call you mum everyday, cos you lead my path
Mummy would drive me to jamb class,pick me on her way back home. 
She would give me money for tfare just in case she couldn't come and even when she does come, she won't ask for the money 
I got admission, u bought everything down to underwear for me
You've never treated me like I was never yours 
During the holidays, u would call just for me to come home
Sandra bring me water upstairs,just because u wanted me around you
Sandra you would accompany me to work, just because you wanted me to sit by ur side while driving 
Everytime you travel abroad, coming back, mummy would buy me the same things she's buying for her children, the same no of clothes, perfume and all 
Your death came to me as a shock as I still wanted you to stay,at least for another year, I told you to wait till I finish, I told you to wait till my convocation, just some months to go and you left.

Hmmm... Death changes everything. Although  I cannot see you smile or hear your voice no more, I can still hear your voice in my heart. Those memories of you will always bring smile to our faces. I wish we could have you back for just a little while, but I know you are in a better place where there is no sorrow ,sickness or pain.

I knew you as a happy, God-fearing, vibrant and strong mother. A Mother  who did everything within her capacity  to give her children,friends and family the best. Your heart  is healthy  towards everyone (even to those who seemingly do not deserve  it). You lavishly and lovingly gave us a treat of the rod every time . You are indeed  a mother!!!

It's so sad that you're no more, it's so sad I cannot hear your voice or hug you any longer. I still remember seeing you off to the airport and hugging you before you went to board, little did I know that it was going to be the last time we will ever see.

However I still choose to give thanks for the life tou lived. I'm blessed to have been birthed by you, to have enjoyed your love and  care.

Baba Lara, it is well. The Lord will surely rekindle your dimmed light. Funlola, your dear wife, our amiable, generous and ever caring friend, is greatly missed. Moreover, as we cannot pay our last respect. But, we are rest assured, your Apinke is resting joyfully at the bosom of her Lord. Her legacy lives on in the beautiful, God-fearing lives she gave her children and grandchildren.  We thank God for the beautiful life she lived. 

Olufunmilola, it's almost hard to believe that you’re gone to the great beyond.  The many happy memories of our relationship brought me to tears whenever they flash like lights.   
As the saying goes, our influence lives after us. My ever smiling Funmilola, you left a good foot print on the sand of time. You were courageous, family loving and consistently doing well to people. I cannot forget your simple life style, peace loving, patience, decent dressing, good neighborliness and soul winning attributes. My beautiful Temilola, thanks for your ever ready words: “Ajani my love” that always calm me down when I’m under pressure. No doubt, your experience as educator, God fearing mother, homemaker and wife positively influenced many people in contact with you, young and old. I am eternally grateful to God to have had you, Apinke as my wife. You stayed by my side through better and challenging moments. With patience, you endured the intensity of my occupation and never threatened by the size of any challenge.
‘Funlola, the moments we shared together made me a man. You felicitated the man in me. I look at our children, and l thank God you gave me such glee. Our children are extension of your inward and outward beauty, and know they will continue in the joyful and heavenly rewarding steps you started. Together we will miss you. I remember the times we shared jokes …, but you will not be there to share those euphoric and enraptured moments with me again.  You were my wife, my best friend, my sister and upon all, my ‘mother’. I can go on and on elucidating on the wonderful and prodigious moments we shared together, but time and place will not permit me. What l know is that, you knew what l was before we met, what l was after we met, and what l would be after you departed.  My other half is gone, the light in me is deemed, but God will rekindle it. Generous Mama Lara, you were beautiful inside and outside. "Mama Plenty”, good night until we meet again at the Lord's table.

Mummy Ijegun thank you for the wonderful memories as my aunt. I remember you picking my brothers and me up to spend our long vacation at your place. You taught us the essence of family and love during our visits. You treated us like your own. My brothers and your children (our cousins) laughed, complained, sang, and argued during our long car rides from Oshodi to Ijegun in your white Peugeot car. Somehow, we all managed to fit in that car. The journies we made in your car was your way of helping us develop that loving, familial bond you taught us. Of course, as an educator, I am not surprised.

I am glad God gave you the grace to do what you enjoyed as a profession. I watched you get ready for work with so much joy and happiness because you enjoyed working with children. Your energy and smile lifted the spirits of so many children as I observed at our holiday lessons at Kiddies Kingdom and your “Search the Scripture” Sunday lessons at Deeper Life. I remember when you scolded me for not revising my notes. You made me stay up late that night to memorize the characteristics of a living thing (MR NIGER D). Initially, I was upset, but today, I appreciate you for that discipline. Thank you Mummy Ijegun. This is why your existence mattered.

Of course, all work and no play makes jack a dull boy. While you once emphasized to us, “There is no food for a lazy man.” You also encouraged us to have fun in the process by taking breaks and celebrating our wins (big or small). I loved it when you dragged us to the dance floor at Aunty Tolu’s wedding. I loved it when you celebrated our church children’s day program with us in Agege. I loved it when you danced to “Olufunmi” in your living room in Ijegun. Thank you for showing us how to enjoy life even in uncertain times.

Mummy Ijegun, I thank God for your existence and the wonderful memories. Sun re o, Omo Iya Sunday.

My Aunty,

I still don't have the words to put down in describing the enormity of your absence since you transitioned out of this world. It's been a mixture of confusion and numbness of the mind. 
Amidst it all, I thank you for the life that you lived.
I thank you for stressing in your existence that Christ and His kingdom are ultimate and I appreciate that you encouraged everyone who crossed your path to stay close to God and follow His precepts. 
I thank you for having the mind that was in Christ Jesus and putting the needs of others most times above yours. Thank you for allowing God meet the needs of others in every ramification through you and members of your family.
Thank you, my aunty, for living a life that encouraged others to surmount mountains standing in the way of life and of progress even as we all saw you pressing on to take hold of the promises for which Christ took hold of you. You  made it known to me on several occasions that mountains must not obstruct productivity and relevance irrespective of circumstance.
Your contribution to the education of many children will never go unnoticed and it is my prayer that Almighty God reward your soul for ensuring that young minds didn't wallow in the darkness of ignorance.
Yes, you may be absent, and I still can't comprehend your absence. I take solace in the exhorting words that to be absent from the body is to be present with God. In your presence with God, please continue to render prayers to Him on behalf of the ones you left behind, still in our corruptible bodies.
Continue enjoying the gift of assured eternal life.




God made a wonderful woman with a solid gold heart and gave her  to us.  Maami, your time with us was amazing and literally the best years of my life. I think about you everyday, remembering your smiles, laughter, care and how you prioritized everyone's needs above yours.  You lived an exemplary life-  creating bonds and bringing people together for good. You taught me all the  positive values I hold dear today and a lot more wonderful things in your short stay with us.

We received with shock the news of the demise of our dear Aunt Funmi. We know that you are resting at the bosom of the Lord who giveth and taketh, you have joined the saints triumphant.

We can remember vividly, how you and Uncle Tony stood by us through thick and thin, when we lost our Dad, the late Adeoye Yusuf.  You spent lots of time with us on week days and we always looked forward to your weekend visits with Uncle Tony. You both made childhood meaningful and memorable for us. Aunt Funmi, you had a pet name for everyone. Nothing can ever erase the indelible mark you left on our hearts.

You were kind, gentle, liberal, accommodating, you loved all, cared for all, you were full of life and gave many lives a meaning.
You also had a really nice and sincere smile that made one feel close to you.

You will always be remembered for your love for God Almighty and everyone around you.

Dear Aunt , we miss you sorely. May your gentle soul continue to rest in perfect peace (AMEN).

 
THE ADEOYE YUSUFS.

Mama plenty or mummy Ijegun as we would call you. Thank you for always being the “cool and hip” aunt that we could come talk to about anything. I remember always looking forward to long holidays when I was in secondary school (summer holidays as known here in the US). This meant we all got to congregate at Ijegun and spend time with you, uncle Tony, and our cousins. There was nothing really elaborate about this time we all spent together but the focus was cherishing each other’s company while we took summer lessons, went to bible study, danced while listening to music, and played with “Jenny” the neighbors dog. Thanks for putting a big emphasis on getting this quality time together with family and also helping us navigate our faith, education, and most importantly enjoying life. 
I’ll always remember you for the love you showed everyone and also for your love of music and singing. I can’t count how many times you had that Bob Marley record on.

How Can I Not Miss You! - My Forerunner, My Hero.
OLUFUNMILOLA TEMILOLA APINKE 
You were the first friend I had growing up; your company I have always craved. You were my hero in the Nursery School, "Sisi Obasa";  and when you went to Secondary School "Holy Trinity" and had to always come back due to malaria, my joy it was that you did.
You helped me even to our father whom you had a way with and could get anything from.
I grew up under your shadow. In most places, I was referred to as "Aburo Funlola" not knowing my real name. You provided leadership. You were my voice where I didn't have one. Was there anything you would not do for me?
When you got married, your house was my second home. Your love for me was implanted in your husband's heart. If I needed anything and your husband has it, I could get it; from the days of transistor radio to even bigger stuff.
You became born again and you tried to show me the way to Christ but I was not ready to hear any of those stuffs; yet, you were not angry with me. Until life dealt with me and I needed succor. I came to your house as usual and the house was empty but the door was open. I was about going but had a second thought. I stayed knowing you couldn't have gone far. I sat and I decided to play some music while I wait. There was a cassette in the player which I thought would be one of Ebenezer Obey's that your husband loved to listen to; but, it wasn't. It was Pastor W.F. Kumuyi's. I didn't want that; but, something compelled me to listen to it. The message came at me strongly. I began to sob and I cried like a baby. I knew I needed a Savior. I gave my life to Christ in your living room; and, the next Sunday, I had to look for a living Church to attend.
I love you so much that when I met the lady I was going to make my wife, I didn't know how I told her that if she was going to marry me, she should be prepared to marry my sister as well and she did!
I miss you, my sister. A woman of strong will and a kind heart! RIP.

Funmi, I wish this has not happened. Too soon for the candle to surrender to the powers of darkness. I want to take a leaf from a book I read with your loving husband Tony in 1976, Macbeth by W. Shakespeare: "... for from this instant, there is nothing serious in mortality, all is but toys. Renown and grace is dead. The wine of life is drawn, and the mere less is ...". From the day Tony introduced you to me, I knew he had found a gem. I never saw Tony with such a grim in his face for over a decade we have been friends before he met you. You brought joy, glamour and grace to my bosom friend. You gave him beauty and accomplished loving children. How I wish you stayed longer to see them grow older and the loving seeds they are beginning to produce.

Funmi, if I have to describe you, so many words come to mind. Beauty and grace, a heart so kind. You radiated warmth like a blazing fire. You were a breath of fresh air on a hot summer's night. You attracted like a magnet, beautiful things and people. Your heart, so pure and true. You brought laughter to many people. You made life look so simple because of your gentility and passion for peace. You once counselled me on a personal matter that ravaged me, and I will never forget that.

The day the Lord took your breath, your husband called me and with my wife, we went into prayer. Then it was followed by a short text from him, "I wish to inform you that my wife  just passed on to glory..." Immediately I read this, my heart sank, I cried and it all looked to me then as a bedtime story. But truly you were gone, it was real, not a dream. You departed this sinful world to rest in the Lord's bosom. No more pain, no more sorrow, no more anguish. You've lived a fulfilled life.  The thought of never seeing you again brings tears to my eyes always, even more so, because all of this was just a tumultuous surprise. But we should never question what God has planned; sometimes it's not meant for us to understand.

Maami, of all the stars that ever shone, your light was the brightest and most beautiful. Little wonder God wanted you all to Himself.

These past weeks have been tough because I've lived them without you. You were my best friend, always there to listen, always cheering me on, constantly reminding me of my greatness, to know you was to love you. Your heart was pure and kind, your words were firm yet soft, your smiles were straight from the heart and your love was extravagant.

You brought me so much joy and I hope being your daughter had the same effect on you.

I have no regrets mama. I know without a doubt  that you're with God because I have God, I have you always.

Seeing you rest on that bed lifeless, the first thing that came to my mind was “who would always pray for me?”
Alas I remembered our discussion just after your birthday in november, you said to me “ Akin i'm happy I taught you how to pray and i'm glad you and Lade are teaching your children same”...

You also said during that conversation “ i'm happy I taught you my children how to love”...  Mummy, you were love personified.
Seeing how you loved made it easy for us to love everybody.

Olufunlola Temilola Lawal, knowing you are no longer with us on this side of the divide is tough, the only consolation is the assurance that you are in a better place.

I salute your courage when the time came for you to bow out, you did it gallantly like a Christian soilder, honestly Mom I have never seen anybody so strong in death, you made dying look easy.

We are happy you’ll continue to live on earth through us your children and generations yet unborn and at the same time enjoy eternity.

I remember sitting in my mom’s room when she whispered to me that you and Uncle Tony were coming to the States. I was so excited because I’d always wanted to meet you and meeting you was definitely no disappointment. 
You’re such a warm and beautiful lady. Your smile and laugh always made me laugh. Your fashion sense? Undefeated! 
I’m grateful to God that I was able to comfort you all the times you were scared at the chemo clinic. And I’m glad I was there for you during your transition to heaven. I’m grateful for our long car rides. I’m grateful for the laughs, the prayers, and the words of wisdom. 
As much as I miss you and our bonding times, I’m glad you’re finally home, rejoicing and shining your beautiful light over us. You’ve fought the good fight and deserve to enjoy the spoils of heaven.

Exit of a Gentle Soul
Our journey together began in 1973 when we all were enrolled as freshers at African Church Grammar School Abeokuta. We really enjoyed and have been enjoying each other's company till date.
Unfortunately, Funmilola had to drop off now at her own life's station.
We thank Almighty God for the time spent together as friends and classmates(turned family) and will forever keep alive the fond memories of our growing up together.
We members of Afro 738 Club set will miss her gentle nature and warm smiles.
We pray that God grant her eternal rest and uphold her family and all loved ones left behind.

Loss cannot be expressed in words, it can only be felt. The loss of a loved one is perhaps one of the most challenging to grapple with. 
Nothing in life can ever really prepare us for the passing of a rare and amazing personality, more so, one who embodied life like  our dearest Funmi Lawal(Mama Lara).
A super human being with all the great attributes she had; warmth, sincere, understanding, dependable, open-minded, good-nature, kindhearted, happy/jovial, good-humored, humorous, likable, pleasant, trusting, respective, outstanding, God-fearing, we can go on and on. She was indeed  a rare gem, had a positive outlook to life and a fundamental faith in humanity. She could always put you at ease with her positive disposition to life. She was a constant source of encouragement to many and had a way of making everyone feel very special and loved.
Undoubtedly, we have comfort in the reality that our darling sister has reached the fulfillment of our faith, enjoys the the fellowship of the saints triumphant and enormity of the great inheritance of the kingdom of God, and now walks on the street of Gold. A beautiful soul will never be forgotten.
It is nevertheless not possible to have experienced the love and friendship of this great woman or witnessed her faith and unfeigned love for God and not feel a deep sense of loss at her departure. The song may be over, but the melody will linger on.
We are solely comforted that we shall meet again at the resurrection of the saints. For this reason, we do not say,"Goodbye to her", but simply say, "Goodnight".

Aunty mi, I don’t think words can truly express how I feel about your departure. I miss you all the time. I’m grateful to know that through Christ we will meet again but that doesn’t change the difficulty of your absence now. I know you’re now enjoying the incorruptible body, free from pain. And for that, I rejoice. I love you so much and I hope to make you proud. Thank you for everything. This isn’t “good bye”. It’s “see you later”. 

Tribute to a gem. Indeed, a gem is gone, a very rare gem has gone to rest. Mama Lara, my bossom friend has left me in this world by myself but in God's hand.
I remember how our friendship started, way back at Imola Primary School, with you and your husband picking me on the way to work at the school.
We did everything together, belonged to the same group at Church (Morning Star), even went to tailoring school together. I remember the birth of your children and your encouragement while I was waiting on God before he answered my prayers.
My travel partner, we have traveled half of Nigeria together, with you behind the wheels sometimes. Our relationship is so strong, we've been together through thick and thin. Our quarrels only serves as spices to what we have together. 
I miss you greatly and there's nothing that can fill this vaccum you left in my heart. I miss your smiles and your warmth. You are so lovely and loveable. I miss your numerous advice(Mama Teni, ma je ka se be or je ka  se bayi as the case may be).
I miss your caring spirit and thoughtfulness. I miss your calls and gist sessions. I know you are in a better place where there's no pain, nor sorrow, nor dying. Rest on till we meet to part no more. I pray that your Children will continue with the good legacy you left behind while upholding all your morals and values.

Thank God for a life well spent. You came to this planet, called the earth. You lived a righteous life as a Christian and left a good legacy behind. Death is a necessary end. Our prayer is that after leaving this sinful world, we have a place at the bossom of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God Almighty will grant you eternal rest and give families and friends fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Funlola, I think I am in a dream, fighting hard to accept the fact or face the reality of the fact that I will see you no more. Each time I remember, I weep like a baby just as I am doing now. Who are we to question the Almighty God?Whenever I see your children, joy fills my heart. You spoke to me in December as if all is well. You are indeed a gallant warrior. May God Almighty grant you eternal rest in Jesus's name.

The world is not my home, I am just passing through. Funlola, aburo mi atata, Omo Babalola, Aya Tony, Iya Lara. Yours was a short but impactful life. You lived your life as if you knew it was destined to to be short. You touched  many lives. With you, there was no dull moment.
My consolation, however, is that you knew Christ while you were here and I have no doubt, you are in a better. Sleep on beloved until we meet to part no more at the feet of Jesus. My prayer is that God will give all of us left behind the fortitude to bear the loss. Sun re o,

Funlola was my sister and a school mate. She was a very humble and cheerful person. May her soul rest in peace.

The  numbness that came with your death is yet to clear.....I wonder how long it's going to take.

The flashes... while driving, working or staring into nothing just won't stop coming.

I fondly remember how much you encouraged me all the way with school, work, home and outlook to life. 

You  were there, and so supportive when our mother was either away at work or out of the country.  How can I forget the extras you squeezed into my hands, after Egbon and Mum had settled me for school?

It's amazing how the presence of children excites you, and the way you go on and on to keep them happy.

My super hero! I'll miss your ..... "Yomi don't worry, I'll take care of it". 

The memories of 'Mummy Ijegun' is stuck to a very special place in my heart.

Mrs Olufunmilola Lawal was a sister-in-law to a good friend of mine Mrs Ronke Babalola. I know Mrs Lawal to be very cheerful ,always smiling  , virtuous and Godly  woman . May her soul rest in perfect peace.

I remember fondly aunty Funlola as she was always sweet and attentive to us as little children whenever we visited Mama (Mama Towobola) at Oshodi. May her gentle soul rest in peace 

Olufunmilola Apinke Babalola was my baby sister. We grew up under the same roof under the watchful eyes of our dear parents.
Funlola was full of life, a dedicated Christian and a  loving mother. She fought through her illness to be alive. The will of the almighty God prevailed.
I thank you for taking good care of our mum in her last days and the befitting burial you organised for her.
I was hoping  you will get through the monster illness so that we all celebrate and thank God.
I trust you are resting in the bossom of the almighty.
Rest on sister, till we meet to part no more.
