her work here is done. She received an assignment on Monday afternoon, June 7, 2021. A type of an offer you cannot refuse, for an appointment from which she will not be returning.
This mission comes with a huge sign on-bonus. Her new journey takes her to a wonderful and joyous place where she will be enjoying laughter, music, flowers, socializing, dancing, and most of all--a reunion with her family and friends that she has not seen in a very long time.
Betty was finally reunited with her husbands: Gerald L. Girard and Richard P. Holmes; her mother and father: Russell and Esther Saylor; step-father: Floyd McGee; and her sister: Donna Cumpston.
Left to celebrate and share her memory include her daughters: Deborah R. (John) Elderton of Pawnee, IL, Julie A (Jeffrey) Miller of Bloomington, IL, Amy J (David) Balf of El Paso, IL; son: Richard L. (Linda) Girard of Bloomington, IL; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
Betty was a very beautiful, kind, and loving soul who never met a stranger and even made friends while standing in line at the checkout counters. She always had a kind word or a smile to share and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Betty will be watching over us all and will always be in our hearts.
Throughout the years, Betty worked as an office manager for insurance counselors in Bloomington, IL as well as Winton Homes and Construction in El Paso, Texas, where she enjoyed living for many years before returning home to Bloomington. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Normal, IL and was involved with the Mercy Circle Group and the annual Church Attic Sale. Betty was an active member of the Felicity Chapter of Eastern Star in Normal, IL and a member of the class of 1947 University High School Breakfast group which met every month, in which she so enjoyed. She was always the first to volunteer and help out when needed and loved doing things for others.
Betty left very clear instructions to celebrate her life here on earth and we will do just that on Saturday July 17th at the VFW in Bloomington from 5:30 pm-8:30 pm. We would like to invite family and friends to come and share stories and memories of her.
A private family graveside service at East Lawn Memorial Gardens will be held on Sunday, July 18, at 11:00 am., her 91st birthday.
We want to thank the OSF Hospice Nurses and Staff at the OSF Hospice group on Landmark Drive in Normal, especially Amanda, who assisted us with compassion, knowledge, and their time in helping with Bettys comfort during her last few weeks before taking her journey home to be with our Lord. Because of them, we were able to keep her home in her own room, comfortable and at peace, surrounded by her family.
Betty asked that in lieu of flowers you make a donation to the OSF Hospice Group on Landmark Drive in Normal, or to a charity of your choice.
