

Carolyn Ann Johnston, 90, of Bloomington, Illinois, passed away on February 5, 2025. Carolyn was born on June 1, 1934, to Clair and Reva Berkebile. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lloyd W. Johnston.
She is survived by her son David (Lori Harvey) Johnston of Mahomet and their children Clarissa (Aton Abril) of San Jose, California, and Drew Johnston of Mackinaw, Illinois. Also surviving are her daughter, Jennifer (Peter) Winter of Newbury Park, California, and her children Will (Allison VanderWall) Allison of Santa Barbara, California, and Clair Allison of San Diego, California.
Carolyn earned a Bachelor of Arts in Home Economics from Trinity College in San Antonio, Texas, and later pursued a Master of Education from Texas A&M University.
Carolyn and Lloyd were married in 1953, and over the years, they lived in Dayton, Ohio, the Washington D.C. area, and Nashville, Tennessee, before settling in San Antonio, Texas, where they raised their children for 14 years. Wherever they lived, Carolyn became a leader in local civic and church organizations, leaving an enduring impact.
In 1978, they moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas, where Carolyn became deeply involved in choral music and served the community in many ways. She was an active member of the library board, the hospital guild, and the Director of the First United Methodist Preschool. Carolyn and her friends also opened a clothing store, and she was known for her love of her red Mazda RX7.
Upon retirement, Carolyn and Lloyd moved to Westminster Village in Bloomington, Illinois, where Carolyn became the first woman to serve as president of the Residents' Council. She formed lasting friendships during her time there and chose to remain in her apartment while receiving hospice care. The family extends special thanks to the compassionate caretakers at Westminster, Gentiva, and Synergy for their dedicated care.
A memorial service to honor Carolyn will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Westminster Village, Bloomington, Illinois. A private family graveside service will be held later in the year.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Baby Fold in Normal, Illinois, or the Westminster Village Foundation in Bloomington, Illinois.
