

He was born January 5th, 1918, to William and Sarah (Slover) McKinney. He attended schools in Chenoa IL, graduating in 1936.
After high school Mac did farm work & also played in a country western band called The Southerners. In 1938 the band toured Kentucky, Arkansas, & Tennessee. In Chattanooga, the band played for radio station WDOD, having a morning & noon program. Shortly after this time World
War II broke out & he was stationed to serve in Germany as an army medic. It was while in
Germany, that he met his wife to be Inge. She preceded him in death in 2016, after 67 years
of marriage.
Mac went on to work for the Illinois state police. The last 11 years spent in criminal investigations.
After retiring from the state police in 1977, he obtained his real estate license. His final work years
were spent with the Illinois Dept. of Agriculture. He worked there into his 80’s.
He is survived by his daughter Cindy Smith, & grandson Zachary Smith, Normal IL. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family of seven siblings. Zachary & his grandfather enjoyed watching the Cubs & Bears play. Mac can best be remembered for being a
loving husband, father & grandfather. He carried a hard work ethic throughout his life. He always
tried to look on the bright side of life & believed in giving second chances & tried to find the
good in everyone. We will miss him terribly.
