Born in a sod house in Hemingford, NE on April 5, 1932, Vicki was the daughter of Cecil & Ruth Vickers. She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1953 and retired from the Eureka Williams Company in 1996 after 18 years as a Technical Writer.
Every bit the Nebraska farm girl, Vicki was active in 4H and showed livestock at both the Omaha and Denver Stock Shows, amassing an impressive collection of ribbons along the way.
While at UNL, Vicki earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Human Sciences. She also earned a secondary degree in Textiles, Clothing and Design. Vicki was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority and a Lifetime Member of the Nebraska Alumni Association.
Vicki had a strong belief in the Lord which sustained her throughout her life. She was a faithful servant to the Lutheran Church in which she held many leadership roles over the years.
She also gave of her time and talent to the Bloomington Performing Arts Center, McLean County History Museum, Faith In Action and Habitat for Humanity to name just a few.
Vicki enjoyed Cornhusker football, sewing, gardening, “roofing”, MSNBC, eating with others, Moscato and, most importantly, time with her family. She had a feisty spirit and a zest for life that will be with us always.
Above all, there was a special place in Vicki’s heart for her companion Danielle, a cairn terrier who survived Hurricane Katrina to come to Illinois and her forever home on Reinthaler Road. Although Vicki is on the record as the rescuer, we truly believe that Danielle was sent to rescue Vicki. The two gals were inseparable and spent their days walking around the block, relaxing and napping. She was a blessing not only to Vicki but to the entire family.
Vicki is survived by a son, Jay Olsen (Kim Cook) and a daughter, Jill Kasprzak (Ken) as well as a sister, Paulla Sjostrom (Donald). She was devoted to her grandchildren Monica Cox (Mark), Kelsie Lype (Lucas Woolridge), Nikole “Kolie” Olsen, Andy Kasprzak (Jolee), Michelle Kasprzak (Jared Britt) and Mitchel, Austin, Nolan and Lacey Olsen as well as great grandchildren Andrew, George and Miles.
Visitation will be at East Lawn Funeral Home on Monday, January 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with memorial services and cremation rites to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Illinois Chapter or the Autism Society of McLean County.
