Born May 30, 1938 in Chicago, IL to Robert M. and Helen H. (Reed) Nessel; she married William “Bill” Shrier on August 19, 1966 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on June 18, 2019 in Peoria.
Surviving are her sons, Paul (Becca) Shrier of Greensboro, NC, David Shrier of Goodfield; daughter-in-law, Melissa Shrier (Shawn Bowen) of Bloomington; grandchildren, Matthew Shrier of Bloomington, Nicholas (Emily) Shrier of Phoenix, AZ and Maya Shrier; and her brother, Reed (Sue) Nessel of San Diego, CA.
Holding a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; she was the Librarian at the Peoria Public Library for many years.
Jean volunteered for Reading for the Blind.
She was a lifelong Cubs fan and enjoyed the Illinois Shakespeare Festival and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a long-time member of St. Paul Episcopal Church in Peoria where a memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 28, 2025 with memorial visitation prior to the service beginning at 9:00 AM. Father Chris Pierce will officiate. Inurnment will follow at the church following the service.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington.
