

Louis James Shaw 75, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, in Bloomington, Illinois. Born on August 4, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois, to Louis H. and Susie M. Shaw. Louis lived a life rooted in his family, culture, strength, and a deep devotion to those he loved.
As a proud United States Army Veteran, Louis served his country with honor during the Vietnam War; an experience that reflected his courage, discipline, and unwavering sense of duty. Following his military service, he continued his commitment to serving others through over twenty years of dedicated work with the United States Department of Justice.
On July 7, 2001, Louis married the love of his life, Ramona, and together they built a bond grounded in love, laughter, and partnership. Family was the heart of Louis’s world. He found his greatest joy in simply being present; sharing moments, telling stories, cooking and creating memories that will live on through generations. Whether surrounded by children, grandchildren, or friends, Louis had a way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Ramona Shaw; his children, Suzanne Shaw, Jelani Adofo, Adam Rodriguez-Shaw(Jasmine), Jazzmyn Samuels, and Brettania Pierce; and his treasured grandchildren, Na’quan, Na’lani, Na’taia, Noemi, Amaya, Amerie, Tahanni, and Cali, who brought immense pride and light to his life. He is also survived by his brother, Gregory A. (Douminnek) Shaw, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Isaiah Rodriguez-Shaw; and his sisters, Diane and Valerie Shaw.
A devoted husband, proud father, loving grandfather, and respected brother and friend. Louis will be remembered not only for his service and work ethic, but for his love and directness. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the strength he instilled in those who carry his name forward.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Chicago, Illinois.
