

Margaret Louise Beckman was born on September 30, 1930, in Waukegan, IL, the only child of Ethel (Sandmeyer) and William Beckman.
Margaret married Albert Lytle Lundy of Rock Island, IL, August 29, 1953, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Waukegan, IL.
After starting their family, they moved to Calumet City, IL in 1958, where together they raised five sons: Jeffrey (Debra Reiplinger), Dyer, IN, Albert (Sharon Niezgoda), Normal, IL, Steven (Sharon Langwinski), Lowell, IN, Christopher (Susann Budimir), Dyer, IN and Timothy (Kasia Drozd), Boxborough, MA.
Albert Sr. passed in 2003, after fifty years of marriage.
Margaret moved to Crown Point, IN, then to Normal, IL, where she resided for the last 15 years.
Also left to cherish Margaret’s memory are eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Margaret’s keystones in life were family, faith and service. Qualities she instilled in her sons. She was a Den Mother for Calumet City Cub Scout Pack 215, a long-time member of the VFW Auxiliary, a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow and sat on the board of directors for the Visiting Nurses Association of Northwest Indiana. She served for sixteen years as alderman of Calumet City’s 6th ward, where she was affectionately known as “Alderman Marge”. She had many proud accomplishments during this time. She successfully fought to protect the vital flood plain areas of southern Calumet City from commercial and residential development. She was the founding organizer of the region’s Meals on Wheels program. After an unsuccessful bid for mayor, she served as the Housing Director before retiring. She was an active member of Our Lady of Knock Catholic Church in Calumet City where she was a Lector, an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Pastoral Minister, and established their Bereavement Ministry. After moving to Normal, she became a member of Holy Trinity Parish in Bloomington, IL. Margaret had a great devotion to the Virgin Mary and prayed the rosary daily.
There will be a visitation for Margaret’s cremains at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 106 W. Chestnut St., Bloomington, IL, Friday, June 13, from 9:00-11:30 am, followed immediately by her funeral Mass.
A graveside service will take place Saturday, June 14, 11:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 801 Michigan City Rd, Calumet City, IL, where Margaret will be interred next to her husband.
