

She lived in the same home as her parents and grandparents until moving to an assisted living facility when she was almost ninety.
Mary Lou was proceeded in death by her parents and only sister, Norma Jeanne Grassel.
She is survived by two nephews Eric and Robert Grassel and their wives, Cindy, and Julie.
She was selected by the local American Legion Auxiliary to attend the 1948 Girls State. Mary Lou graduated from Moore High School in Farmer City in 1949. She completed two years at ISNU where she was a drummer with the all-girl marching band. Mary Lou worked at Stensel's Funeral Home for twenty-five years. She then became a successful tour director for twenty years providing many people an opportunity to see and experience the United States. For seventeen years she was Santa Anna Township Supervisor and President of DeWitt County Supervisors for twelve years. Mary Lou was on the original Health Alliance Board and also the Township Officials of Illinois Risk Management Advisory Board. She was a lifelong member of the Farmer City United Methodist Church where in earlier years she sang in the choir. For many years she used her decorating talent to prepare the altar for weekly services. She was also a member of the Farmer City Shakespeare Club. She was a former member of Woodlawn Country Club, Illinois Funeral Directors, and a local lady’s bridge group.
There will be a time of remembrance of Mary Lou Sunday morning during the worship service at the Farmer City United Methodist Church. Mary Lou will be inurned at Maple Grove Cemetery in Farmer City
