

With profound joy and gratitude, we announce the peaceful passing of Nomia Earlene Hedges, age 93, who was surrounded by her loving family, including her daughter Sarah and son-in-law Mark, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, in Bloomington, IL.
Born on December 27, 1932, in Kings Creek, Kentucky, Nomia lived a life rooted in faith, love, and devotion to family. Nomia embodied the love of Christ, shining brightly as the cherished daughter of Jack and Sarah Milligan. She was blessed with three brothers and one sister: Charles, Buddy, Jim, and Peggy.
Throughout her life, she called Tennessee, Illinois, and Kansas home, leaving behind treasured friendships and lasting memories in each place. For 74 remarkable years, she shared unwavering love and devotion with her husband, Joseph Hedges, who was her rock and lifelong companion. As a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and dear friend, Nomia’s heart overflowed with generosity and compassion. Her family was her greatest joy and the center of her life.
Nomia’s life was a beautiful testimony of grace, kindness, steadfast faith, and service to others. She touched countless lives through her warmth and servant's heart. She was known for her legendary banana bread, peanut brittle and pizza and also for cleaning houses, fundraisers and beautiful gardens. She faithfully served as a Pastor’s wife, Sunday School teacher, Ladies Auxiliary President for Section 7, and Mother’s Memorial Queen for the Illinois District UPCI and greeter in Kansas UPC. Above all, Nomia loved God deeply. Her devotion to prayer, daily Bible reading, and unwavering faith defined her life. She was a true prayer warrior whose love for God and church radiated to everyone around her. Her Sunday and holiday dinners brought generations together, creating cherished memories that will live on forever. Her legacy of love, strength, faith, and family devotion will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Nomia is survived by her children, Joseph Hedges, Deborah (Scott) Pagel, Sarah (Mark) Marshall, and Ron Mieske, along with the treasured memory of her beloved daughter, Susie. She was also blessed with 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many others who lovingly called her “Mom.” Her brother, Jim Milligan of Texas, continues to carry her love and memory in his heart.
A celebration of Nomia’s extraordinary life will be officiated by her grandson, Mark Marshall Jr., at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Apostolic Pentecostal Church, 2810 Tractor Lane, Bloomington, IL, where visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A committal service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Joe. East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington, IL is assisting the family.

Her family will forever hold close her favorite saying: “I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck!” Her beautiful spirit, unwavering faith, and endless love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
