Patricia D Bohl

Patricia “Patti” D. Bohl, 75, of Bloomington, passed away November 9, 2021. She was born January 7, 1946, in Blythe, California to Edwin and Eloise (Ellsworth) Meyers, and married the love of her life, Michael Bohl, on February 18, 1978 in Chula Vista, California.

Surviving are her loving husband of 43 years: Michael Bohl of Bloomington, IL; children: Robin (Scott) Soebbing of Lincoln, IL; Tracy (Robert) Bradford of West Lafayette, IN; Jonathan (Erica) Bohl of Lafayette, IN; grandchildren: Brandon (Laurie) Soebbing of Lafayette, LA; Cramer Soebbing of Chicago IL; Lauren (Peter) Gillen of Chatham, IL; Brook Soebbing of Lincoln, IL; Jack, Xander, and Noah Bradford of West Lafayette, IN; Banks, Laney, and Maddox Bohl of Lafayette, IN; and 4 great grandchildren; brother: Mark (Trish) Meyers of Rogersville, TN; niece: Teresa Helms; and nephew: Stephen Meyers.

She is preceded in death by her father: Edwin T. Meyers; mother: Eloise (Meyers) Cooper; and grandparents: Mac & Bernice Doran.

Patti had a diverse work experience, spent mostly as a church secretary for three different churches in three different states and a university. Her love for houses turned into a short but successful real estate career. Her love for people led her to invest years as a visitation supervisor for DCFS, a GED tutor, and a volunteer English teacher for newly-arrived immigrants, among many other volunteer roles in her local church. Her last occupation was serving as a customer service adviser for Kohl’s department store in Bloomington, IL. She left that role to battle breast cancer in 2009.

After overcoming breast cancer, she dove into her many hobbies rather than return to work. She took up piano again, she expanded her extensive craft repertoire (including her recent love of creating and collecting fairy gardens), she pursued her gardening skills with vigor, creating a backyard garden oasis and growing mature plants from seeds, including a now 9-foot lemon tree, and she enjoyed visiting horse stables, remembering her days of riding as a young woman. Patti was always learning and improving her mind. She taught herself to read and write in French, learned the Greek alphabet, and explored her fascination with ancient Hebrew culture among other varied interests. Her mind never stopped, and as long as she was physically able, she was rarely still.

Her two greatest passions in life were her husband, Michael, and God’s word, the Bible. Together they studied and memorized scripture. She made several illustrated scripture books, and was developing a Biblical version of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas at her death. Scripture was the foundation of all Patti believed and how she lived. She and Mike are known for their love for everyone they meet, sharing God’s love through many acts of kindness and encouraging words. In her last days, Patti clung to the truth of 2 Corinthians 4.17.

Viewing and Family Visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 16, 5-8pm, at East Lawn Funeral Home. Later, a burial service will take place on Tuesday, November 23, at 10am at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11.30 am at First Assembly of God, 800 East Vernon, Normal Illinois, with the Rev. Robert Bradford officiating.
