

Paul Roger Heyboer, 91, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2016 at Sugar Creek Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Normal. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcia on December 12, 2016. Surviving are his daughters, Kara (Bruce) Holt; Jill Heyboer; Andrea Heyboer (Sumner Thompson); grandchildren Ryan Holt, Blake Holt, Logan Holt, and Annika Heyboer Thompson.
Paul was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on May 21, 1926. He had an interest in music from an early age, first playing violin and piano and then various wind instruments. He was drafted into the army during World War II, and after the war ended he played trumpet in the army band in Japan for two years. He then studied music, specifically the oboe, at the University of Michigan. In 1960 he moved to Moorhead MN to teach all the woodwinds and conduct the second band at Concordia College. He married Marcia in 1961, started a family, and in 1966 they moved to Bloomington-Normal where Paul taught flute, oboe and bassoon at Illinois Wesleyan University. After 12 years he ended his music career and worked at Eureka Williams in field engineering until his retirement.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Wesley United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service.
