Phyllis Jean Boaz

Phyllis Jean Boaz, 93, of Normal, IL, passed away Sunday August 25, 2024 at her home with her loved ones by her side. Phyllis was born at home in Dawson Township, IL on May 16, 1931, to Lester and Edith Mae (Cope) Boaz. She married Melvin Tulle.

Phyllis was a hardworking mother of four who was proud to be the central figure in the lives of her family. She worked for and retired from State Farm Insurance Company as a secretary. She also worked and retired from OSF St. Joseph Medical Center where she served as an administrative secretary. Phyllis was a member of the OSF Auxiliary. In addition, she owned and operated the “Little Chef” Restaurant, formally located in downtown Bloomington.

Phyllis was a devoted Christian and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Normal. She was most happy when staying busy and helping those around her. She enjoyed the many friends she made throughout her life and the experiences they shared. Above all, however, her most cherished moments in life were those spent with her family.

Survivors include her children: Greg Tulle of Kappa, IL, Gail Lopez of Cape Coral, FL, and Gina (Gene) Meece of Bloomington, IL, one daughter-in-law, Teresa Tulle; grandchildren: Stephen (Jessica) Tulle, David Tulle, Duane (Jennifer) Lopez, Rachel (Nate) Best, Jay (Tara) Tulle, Jonathan Lopez; 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

Preceding her in death are her parents, one son, Gary Tulle, two brothers: Charles and Jim Boaz, five sisters: LaVerne Alexander, Vera Demler-Lillie, Eileen Smithson, Patty Oesch, and Linda Davis.

A public visitation will occur on Saturday August 31, 2024 from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM at East Lawn Funeral Home. Committal will follow the visitation at East Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
