We REALLY enjoyed having Bob as our Home Teacher for the past few years.  His good humor and his caring nature were a great blessing to us.  (He even knew my favorite Jelly Belly flavor!)  We are already missing him a lot.  We are so sorry for your loss, Sharon!  He will be well remembered by so many people.  I envision Bob now having his sight restored and being busily engaged in helping and entertaining folks on the other side.   He will be a blessing wherever he is!

I was saddened to learn of Bob's passing.  Bob was amazing person and he taught me a lot about perseverance and tenacity, qualities that he seemed to enjoy in abundance.  He had a great sense of humor and his quick wit was always close at hand. To Sharon and family I am so sorry for your loss and am keeping you all close in my prayers.

Bob Johnson was totally unique, a hard-charging individual who worked hard to own a radio station, which was his life's dream and working to help blind people realize their dreams too. He touched many lives and helped change many lives for the good. There will never be anyone like him again.

Bob was friendly, witty, and took a sincere interest in others. He also had an amazing memory. Kelly and I met Bob and Sharon shortly after they moved to Bloomington, IL. They shared the story of their career together in Radio broadcasting. At that time, I was working as an assistant to visually impaired students. I invited Bob to speak to the students in the Vision department at Metcalf Laboratory School. After his presentation, he chatted with the students, asking them about their goals and interests. The students and staff were impressed with Bob's presence and intelligence.  As a result, he was invited to speak to ISU students majoring in education of the visually impaired. He fielded questions from the students with relative ease, despite the generation gap. Bob also graciously accepted my invitation to help our ward Webelos Scouts earn their Communicator Activity Badge. The boys were fascinated to learn of Bob's career as a radio announcer, how he took notes in Braille, and the tools he used in his daily life.  Sharon prepared a note card with the Braille alphabet for each scout...a thoughtful and appreciated gift. They were so excited about learning to read Braille!  Bob and Jim Allen were our family's faithful home teachers for nearly 3 years. We enjoyed their visits.

Bob was an amazing individual. I was privileged to visit him as a home teacher, and to have him as my instructor at church. He was always delightfully cheerful, quick-witted, and had great observations and stories.  He enjoyed quizzing my son and giving him assignments as he prepared for his mission.  He had better "sight" than many people with two good eyes: he had the layout of Bloomington-Normal memorized, and he also had keen insights into people and situations.  Sharon, Tristan, and family, my prayers and thoughts are with you.

Bob was a ray of sunshine. We enjoyed Bob's humor and his optimistic look on life.  He was a great example to us all.  He loved the Savor and had a beautiful testimony of the gospel.  We loved having him as our Sunday school teacher.  An amazing human being, he will be missed!

I worked for several months with Bob at church assisting him as he taught our Sunday School lessons.  I was so impressed with his humor, his intelligence and his kindness.  Our thoughts are with the family at this time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.  It is never easy to let a special loved one go, but you know he is free and will always be in your heart.  All those precious memories will be a healing salve to your spirit.  God bless

Tristan, I loved talking to your dad and never knew he was blind.  He always had an uplifting spirit!  May your memories be a blessing to you in the days ahead.  My sympathies to you and your family in this time of great loss.

Tristan, our sympathies are with you and your family on the passing your of Father.  We remember talking to him when we first joined.  We could sense he had a gentle spirit and was a wonderful person.

Tristan, I never met your dad but I talk to him on the phone several times in the past and he was always helpful. He had told me he was blind in our conversations.

Tristan, so sorry to hear about your Dad's passing.  I didn't have the privilege to meet him but your tribute to him shows that he was a remarkable man. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.  Treasure the memories.

Sharon and Tristan - I am so saddened to learn of Bob's passing. I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Bob for many, many, years. He was an amazing individual. I have many fond memories of him - both from a professional perspective and a personal friendship as well. I can remember talking to him on the phone one day discussing ideas for the upcoming OFB appeal - he say's "hold on - I have to give the hogs report" and I could hear him interrupt the radio station to read the report. He was such an inspiration! I loved Bob.  My life is so much richer for having met and worked with him. He was so proud of you Tristan. He often would tell me how well you were doing. And of course he loved Sharon very, very, much. My dad and Bob are in heaven having a grand time. Forever is a long time to be happy in heaven.

Our sympathies are with you and your whole family Tristan.  Your father was wonderful to work with when we first joined the WDN "family" quite some time ago.  He sounds like a wonderful man to have known and loved.

Over the past 33 years, Bob and Sharon have stood beside us as friends and as family.  Bob was and still is one of my best friends.  When the Maryland DMV sent him a drivers license ( man what a laugh to give a drivers lincense to a blind man) and we would be going somewhere together, he would always ask, if it was his turn to drive, and we would laugh. Bob, its your turn to drive.

Tristan, we are so sorry to hear of your father's passing.  We wish we could have known him--your description of him was a wonderful tribute.  You have our sympathy and prayers.

I didn't know your father but it sounds like he was a great man.  Our deepest sympathies, prayers, and thoughts to you and your family during this difficult time.

Another good man has gone home to our Heavenly Father. Too soon, some might say, but from what I know of Bob, he led a full life. A good man. Our prayers are with those mourning his departure.

I did not have the honor to know Bob but from reading what you wrote along with the other posts I missed out on knowing a great man. You and your family have our deepest sympathy.

I first met Bob in his office at WKIK back in the 80s. As we talked, a wasp landed on his head. I said, Mr Johnson, stay perfectly still....I knocked the wasp to the floor with a paper, and stepped on it. Bob said, what was it, and I told him....He said, Crisp, you have killed my seeing-eye wasp. That began a friendship that has lasted more than 30 years. I will miss him and my heart breaks for Sharron and Tristin.

When Bob hired me to come work for him & Sharon at WKIK in Maryland, it was the beginning of understanding how family and business could all create an atmosphere for success.  It was easy to learn a lot about business and a lot about life from this very creative, funny and giving man.  Throughout the years we have stayed in touch and enjoy discussing not only radio, but life in general.  My deepest sympathies to Sharon, Tristan and the Johnson family. Death is a part of Heavenly Fathers plan.  We knew and accepted that before we came to this earth.  Bob is not dead he is waiting for us and being perfected and taught more.
Bob was my friend and I will miss him very much but I look forward to seeing him again and those beautiful blue eyes he told me about.
