William D. Mooney

William D. Mooney, 75, of Downs passed away July 16, 2022. He was born September 12, 1946 to Willard and Doris (Lawyer) Mooney in Bloomington, IL and married the love of his life, Sandra Meeks on November 12, 1967 in Normal, IL. Together the two shared a loving 54 years together.

Surviving are his spouse: Sandra; children: Vicki (Bobby) Willan, Lisa (Guy) Mclean; 5 grandchildren: BJ, Bre, Nathan, Brit, Josh; 5 great-grandchildren: Levi, Nova, Maverick, Nash, Cassie; 1 brother: Rick Mooney; his beloved dog: Snow; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. William was preceded in passing by his: parents; and 1 sister: Barb Evans.

William was a passionate patriot and served our country in the United States Army. After his service, he held a career, working for GE for 35 years. In his spare time, he raced stock cars and spent as much time with his family as possible, spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren endlessly. William was known for his bowling prowess and also known for being a die-hard NASCAR and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He will be fondly remembered for supporting his teams from the comfort of his own chair as well as loving pizza to the very end.

Per William’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded with East Lawn Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022 at 2:30 pm at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington.
