Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.babionesouthflorida.com for the Bazurto family.Alvaro Bazurto, age 84, joined his Savior on Tuesday, July 20, 2021.
Al was born in Colombia, South America on August 20, 1936 to Desiderio Bazurto and Maria del Carmen Leon de Bazurto.
He was raised on a farm along with his five siblings, and lost his father when he was only 12 years old. It was these early life experiences that helped to shape his exceptional work ethic and deep love of family which later became very evident in his life.
Al served his country attending military school, after which he met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth Rodriguez.
Only two days after their wedding, Al arrived in New York City alone in the Fall of 1957, determined to prepare a home and secure a good future for his new bride. He worked 3 jobs, 6 days a week, 19 hours a day for a year, all while subsisting on a Coke and Twinkie per day in order to save enough money to bring Elizabeth from Colombia so they could begin their new life together.
Through a lot of long hours, persistence, and diligence, his hard work paid off and he solidified his family’s financial stability. Over the years, the family grew as they welcomed their three children, Lillian, Sandra, and Alexander.
When he was warned by his physician that his overworking was presenting a real threat to his health, Al did not hesitate to rearrange his priorities so that he would not leave his wife and children without the love and guidance of a father as he had suffered earlier in his own life. His focus became to provide without sacrificing his ability to be fully present for his family who was so dear to him.
Al was a talented singer with a love for classical music and boleros. He enjoyed singing along with recordings of The Tenors and Andrea Bocelli.
Al gave his life to Jesus Christ in the Fall of 1982 and he continued to lead and guide his family while asking the Lord to lead and guide him in that process. Today, his family is most grateful for the love and impact he has made in each of their lives.
He is survived by his bride and companion of 64 years, Elizabeth, his 3 children: Lillian Tyrrell, Sandra Rodriguez, and Alex Bazurto; Their spouses, Michael Tyrrell, Maurice Rodriguez, Mylena Maldonado; his 6 grandchildren (Matthew, Michael, Stephen, Cassandra, Gabriella, and Leonardo); and 1 soon-coming great granddaughter.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on July 25 at Babione-Kraeer Funeral Home in Boca Raton, Florida.
