Rest in peace Charlie.  You were a kingpin in our small village of student activists at Lowell Tech. A few years older (and wiser), you inspired us all with your persistence and creativity in bringing progressive change to the campus.  From student strikes to mega-concerts, you were always in the thick of it removing roadblocks and building coalitions.  Ideas like a student Disciplinary Appeals Board, advocating for women members on the emerging football club , and running a cash prize contest at Spring Carnival for the most "unpaid" City of Lowell parking tickets, all had your finger prints on them.  I'll forever appreciate the hour you spent with me explaining the simplicity of  macro-economics.
 I'm sure all of your students were inspired in some way.
You are fondly remembered as one of the "good guys."

I was saddened to learn of Charlies death in the U Mass Lowell alumni magazine. He and I were good friends in college as we participated in student government, general shenanigans and, O yeah, going to class. We coordinated the first 'spring carnival' together for Tech in 1972 much to the chagrin of Dean King. We played lots of ice hockey together and drank voluminous amounts of beer. Charlie and his first wife, Roberta, introduced me to my current wife, Ginny, in 1974 with whom Roberta worked.
Charlie was always full of life and had an extraordinary energy level and over the top personality. You were never bored around Charlie !!

I was really sad to come across this news in the UMass Lowell magazine. Charlie and I were somewhere between friends and acquaintances (we're not related as far as we knew) and hung out with the same circle of friends (Apple, Steve Warren,  etc.) and we played on the renewed Lowell Tech football team. In fact, I'll always remember him for not using the planned yearbook pic of the team in which I was hidden behind him and using an alternate pic which was the reverse, me in front of him. 
That was a really selfless thing to do and that was Charlie. I thought I would run in to him again someday.
