A Life of Faith, Courage, and Compassion
Rev. Dr. Daniel Robert Panitz, of Coconut Creek, Florida passed away in the early morning of September 16th, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on the 1st of May 1945 in Brooklyn, New York to Daniel and Lillian, he lived a life as remarkable as it was diverse—a tapestry woven with adventure, faith, science, service, and love.
He completed his graduate work at New York University, and later on earned his Ph.D. from Rutgers and The New School.
He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. His parents passed away many years ago, but their lessons of resilience and love stayed with him throughout his life. He is survived by his beloved wife, Elsy Panitz; his daughter, Yessica (husband William); and his cherished grandchildren, Daniela, Christopher, and Daniel, who were always the heart of his world.
Daniel’s heart was enormous. He was always guiding his family and friends, encouraging them through struggles, and lifting them to higher ground. He found joy in helping others reach a better place in life, often reminding them that God’s presence never fails—even in the darkest times.
His professional life reflected his boundless creativity and drive. He was the force behind the companies he built, pioneering an innovative cement product that showcased both his scientific curiosity and love for chemistry. As a clinical psychologist, he compassionately helped others navigate life’s challenges. He also served as Director of the Foundation for Human Services, an organization committed to supporting caregivers, vulnerable populations, and humanitarian initiatives across the nation.
Daniel’s courage and humanitarian service were recognized around the world. A hero of 9/11, he received the Humanitarian of the Year Award, presented by President George W. Bush, members of Congress, the U.S. Senate, and several universities and institutions. He risked his life in places such as Haiti, Pakistan, and the Dominican Republic, and he served in Louisiana and Mississippi during Hurricane Katrina—always stepping in as a first responder where others dared not go.
He was deeply proud of supporting and promoting the podcast Dios Nunca Duerme (God Doesn’t Sleep), which shares stories of faith, resilience, and God’s unseen presence in people’s lives. It offers testimony to God’s constant guidance:
“In life’s most difficult moments, it’s easy to feel alone, but God is always present, guiding us in ways we may not understand.”
Beyond science and service, Daniel was also a poet and the author of several books. Some reflected his own life’s joys and struggles, while others were written to comfort families facing loss. His words remain a living legacy of faith and hope.
Those who knew Daniel will remember his heroism—but even more, his humanity. He reinvented himself many times in life—scientist, minister, psychologist, humanitarian—but through every chapter, his faith in Jesus Christ remained constant.
Daniel enjoyed looking out to the lake and watching nature. He also loved horses and reminiscing of his ranching days.
Though he leaves behind a profound emptiness, he also leaves a lasting vision of hope, strength, and love. His family invites all to honor his memory not only in grief, but by continuing his mission: to care for one another, to believe in resilience, and to remember always that Dios Nunca Duerme—God Doesn’t Sleep.
