Born Edith Carmen Evelyne Archin to parents Rose Carmen Archin and Louis Magloire in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, she was the pulse and heartbeat of her mother and the crown jewel of her father. Little did anyone know the world had received that day an angel who would dedicate the next 80 years of her life blessing others.
In her teenage years in Haiti, Edith met a young man named Joel Roy, who soon became her best friend, husband, father to their two children Cynthia and Ricardo, and partner in life for more than 60 years. Joel was mesmerized by Edith, often heard referring to her as a “gorgeous movie star with the heart of Mother Teresa.” Never did he imagine that this beautiful, sophisticated woman would one day be his wife. He was living a dream and the luckiest man alive.
To the family, Edith was known as mom, grandma, sister, aunt and “Didite” to countless friends and family members. She was not only a caring wife and mother, but a sincere and nurturing stepmother to Joanna, loving mother-in-law to Michelle and Eddy, and a doting grandmother to 9 grandchildren - Mercedes, Ricardo Jr., Jonaiah, Annaelle, Isaiah, Kayla, Aidan, Anthony & Sophia.
Edith played the role of caretaker, nurse, accountant, mediator, seamstress, cook, problem solver, teacher, counselor and overall friend to everyone who knew her. She was relentless in her need to make everyone’s life better. With a heart as big as the ocean, her generosity knew no boundaries and everyone was treated as family. Edith always gave the most and took the least.
Although Edith wasn’t the adventurous type, she was still bold and confident, and often the center of attention in the room. She was calm in demeanor, graceful in approach, and wise in response. She was a music enthusiast who created her own extensive media library and filled the walls of her home with musical masterpieces from every genre. Edith was an amazing dancer and entertainer who loved showering guests with hospitality and attention. The family home was filled with books where one would often find her in a secluded space engrossed in one of her favorite novels (a habit her daughter and eldest granddaughter inherited.) Edith enjoyed life, always smiled and found the good in every person and situation. Every day was a day to celebrate life and touch others.
Edith Roy was also a warrior.
On November 27, 2024 the world returned this angel home to Our Almighty Father in Heaven. Those still here will miss Edith immensely, but know she is forever in our hearts, our memories, and souls as she continues on her spiritual path and eternal life with God.
