1937- 2011
BOCA RATON, FL – Edward K. “Ed” Savides, 74, of Boca Raton, FL, passed away on Thursday June 23, 2011 after a courageous battle with a recent illness. He was born in Springfield, MA on April 3, 1937 a son of the late Kiriacos “William” and Alice Savides and was a graduate of the former Springfield Technical High School. At a very young age, Ed began a career buying, selling, and repairing radios, televisions and appliances in his father’s business, Bay Street Radio and TV. All of this work from a young age prepared Ed for what he was best known for – his success in the automotive industry. Ed was the former owner of State Auto Sales and the Springfield Auto Mall on Page Boulevard in Springfield, where he was known for buying and selling close to 15,000 cars in one year. From there, Ed branched out into the real estate business and began purchasing, selling and developing commercial and large scale residential real estate throughout the country. His role as a father and husband was never compromised by his love of working and continued success. Ed’s word and integrity was widely known and respected in all of his ventures. Ed’s greatest joy in life, where he was most comfortable and happy, was being surrounded by his family and friends telling stories of his wonderful life. His hobbies included sponsoring stock cars in the 1960’s and, throughout his life, spending time with family and friend’s studying and enjoying thoroughbred horse racing on his days off. Ed was a benefactor at Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach, FL, Johns Hopkins Vasculitis Center in Baltimore, MD and Baystate Health Foundation in Springfield, as well as several additional charities throughout his life. Ed will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him including his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Trish (Caney) Savides; his loving sons, Edward and Domenic Savides, both of Boca Raton, and Alan Savides of Webster, MA; his adoring sister and brother in law, Margaret and Vincent Cicerchia of Ludlow, MA; and his many nephews and nieces and extended family members; and his many close friends who will miss him dearly. In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by a sister, Olympia Gallarani. Ed’s family will receive friends on Sunday June 26, 2011 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road in Springfield. Funeral services will be held on Monday June 27, 2011 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Cecilia’s Church, 42 Main Street in Wilbraham, MA with Rites of Committal and Interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham in Springfield.
