After a fun filled life, Enid passed away at the young age of 94 years old. She loved life, loved dancing, and loved her family. She is survived by her two children, Deborah and Daryll along with five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Enid Rose Vaz is one of six siblings and the last survivor of her sister and brothers. She had one sister Rita and four brothers, Roy, Hartley, Simon, and her twin Frank. Her brother Hartley was her protector, since her father died before she was born. Her mother Hilda Delapenha was one of 12 siblings who all resided in Mandeville, Jamaica.
At age 18, Enid decided to venture to the United States and worked as a nanny until she re-discovered her natural talent as a seamstress/fashion designer. She worked for many fashion houses in the Manhattan garment district in New York City.
She then ran into a friend who she knew from Jamaica. That friend was Clifford A Dobson. Clifford knew all of Enid’s brothers. They dated for one year and married in New York on November 26, 1945. After five years of marriage their first born was Deborah. Two years later came her little brother Daryll.
The family lived most of their lives in New York. They met in Manhattan. They moved to Brooklyn and resided there where both children were born. They later moved to Hempstead Long Island and eventually East Northport. They eventually moved to Florida where they resided for 33 years.
Both continued to work, Clifford for United Airlines and Enid for custom design shops in Ft. Lauderdale until she retired. Clifford retired 2 years later. With unlimited flight privileges they visited Europe, South America, and the Caribbean.
On June 16, 2016, the love of her life, Clifford passed away. They had been married for 66 years.
Enid was a wonderful Mother, wife and grandmother. She will surely be missed by all of us. We are happy to celebrate her wonderful life and happy she is at peace and with her soulmate. We love you!
