Margaret L. Oweida

She was born on February 17, 1929 to Saleem J. and Asma K. Antoon in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. She was a dedicated and talented student who was able to complete her four year degree in just three years at the University of Pittsburgh. Peggy was then accepted to the University of Pittsburgh Law School, a rare achievement for a woman in 1949. That same day she was also offered a full scholarship to further her studies in Political Science at the prestigious American University of Beirut. She decided to defer law school for one year in order to take advantage of this opportunity.

It was in Beirut that she met the love of her life and future husband, Nizar N. Oweida, M.D., FACS, who was known to all as “Nick”. They married in 1950 and enjoyed a wonderful life together as they raised four children: Leslie, Mark, Sami and Steven. No one could have been blessed by a more loving and devoted mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband “Nick”, her son Mark and her grandson Brendan as well as her five siblings.

She is survived by her daughter Leslie Mole’ (Matthew) of Bedminster, New Jersey, her son Sami Oweida, M.D. (Lynne) of Charlotte, North Carolina and her son Steven Oweida, M.D. (Patricia) of Marietta, Georgia. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. They were the stars in her firmament and filled her life with immense pride and joy. They will always love and treasure the precious memories of their “Sitti”.

She will be missed and remembered by her many nieces, nephews and friends as a strong and loving person who lived her life by the Golden Rule. She was a smart, funny, independent, generous, compassionate and forgiving woman of great style and dignity. But, above all and most importantly, she provided unconditional love and wisdom to her large family and her many friends.

She will be deeply missed.
