Born in Harlem, New York City, on March 21, 1928, the oldest son in a family of 7 siblings. Mathew was a devoted father to his three sons, Matthew, Raymond and Joseph. He took great pride in his role as "grandpa Sassano" to his eleven cherished grandchildren who brought him immense joy to his later years.
Mathew was a Navy veteran of World War II, enlisting as a 17 year old with his father's permission.
Mathew had a successful and varied career. Mathew was skilled bricklayer for over 20 years before he became a self educated licensed commercial real estate broker managing a large commercial development in Queens, New York for many years before retiring.
In retirement, Mathew enjoyed traveling, particularly to visit his far-flung son and four grandchildren in California. After Anna's passing, Mathew found solace in the company of his children and grandchildren visits to his home in Boca Raton, regaling them with stories of his youth, Navy service and some of the challenges of building high rise buildings throughout New York City as a bricklayer and foreman.
Mathew is survived by his sons Matthew and Joseph. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Anna and his son Raymond and grandchild, Dana and his parents Michael and Carmella Sassano.
