
BERNHARDT – Miriam Lois, age 90, Boca Raton, Florida, died peacefully April 15, 2023, at Hospice-by-the-Sea surrounded by her loving family. Born September 3, 1932, in Herkimer, New York, to Rachel (Rice) and Harold P. Mixer. Preceded in death by parents, husband of 66 years Henry Lewis Bernhardt, and sister Charlotte P. Mixer. Survived by daughters, Sally J. (Thomas) Slagle, Boca Raton, Florida, Nancy J. (Alan) Favocci R.N., Boca Raton, Florida, and Elizabeth “Betsy” A. (Donald) Savino, Port St. Lucie, Florida; grandchildren, Robert Slurff, Pompano Beach, Florida, Alyson Vitelli, Pompano Beach, Florida, Katharine "Katie" Slagle R.N., Decatur, Georgia, Dr. Grant Slagle, Palm Harbor, Florida, and great-granddaughter, Asia-Rae Vitelli. Miriam earned her Bachelor of Science, College of Nursing degree from University of Bridgeport in 1954. Later that year she married Henry Bernhardt and in 1956 relocated from Connecticut to Boca Raton, Florida and in 1960 established Boca Raton Upholstery where she and husband Henry were owner-operators until retiring and selling the business in 1995. Miriam enjoyed animals, traveling, and was a talented artist having painted many beautiful oil paintings.
