

Mr. Chapman graduated from the Pratt Institute in 1962 and was a founding partner of Chapman & Biber, AIA and owner of The Chapman Studio of Architecture, Planning and Design. His many professional achievements over his 45-year career include senior housing in Summit and Madison NJ, the residential communities of Madison Commons in NJ, Fox Run in Rockland, NY, Skyline Ridge in Springfield NJ; additional achievements include hospitals, temples, banks, restaurants and private residences.
Born in Newark, NJ, Donald was a long-time resident of Madison and Berkeley Heights, NJ. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Zepp Chapman, his parents J. Franklin and Maude Elaine Chapman, and son-in-law, Robert (Bobby) Michael Day. He is survived by his wife, Christine Catherine Chapman; daughter, Laura Alison Chapman-Day; son, Scott Clifford Chapman and his wife Cathi Ellen Chapman; stepson, Peter Thomas Sawchuk and his wife, Gail Elizabeth Sawchuk; grandchildren, Michael Peter Chapman, Jason Nicholas Vetter, Marguerite Day, Peter Levi Sawchuk and Tanner Clark Sawchuk; and sister, Elizabeth Ann Kelly.
In addition to loving his work and family, Donald’s interests included: traveling, playing guitar, painting, Chinese cooking, model railroading, fishing, golfing, and puttering in his garage. Friends and family are sending their memories of his being the family curmudgeon always ready to share a joke, or how-to’s from how to sharpen a knife, grill a steak, hang a picture, or ride a motorcycle.
His life will be celebrated at a gathering of friends to be announced at a later date and ongoing small get-togethers where he will be toasted with Remy Martin VSOP.
