Edward Lucian Tharp

Mr. Tharp was born in Brunswick County, April 16, 1923, son of the late Lucian Albert and Mellie Tensie Gore Tharp. He was also preceded in death by a son, Dennis Duane Tharp, a brother Earl Warren Tharp, a sister Rebecca Inez Clark. He was a lifetime member of Zion United Methodist Church and held several positions there. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation after 30 years of employment.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Somersett Tharp, four children, Katrina Dale Limer of Leland, Edward Earl Tharp and wife Doris of Boiling Spring Lakes, Kenny Tharp and dear friend Pam Potter of Wilmington, Douglas Wayne Tharp and wife Judy of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Betty Rabon of Leland, North Carolina, and Elena Faye Beck and husband Ennis of Leland, North Carolina. Six grandchildren, Jessica Niedomanski and husband Ken of Boiling Spring Lakes, Edward Brandon Tharp of Boiling Spring Lakes, Wendy Yvonne Cook and husband Chip of Donalds, South Carolina. Kenneth Tharp, Jr. and wife Megan of Leland, Stephanie Crystal Limer of Leland, William Brent Limer and wife Elicia of Gibsonville, North Carolina. Eight great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Landon, Makenzie, Garrison, Alexis, Zachery, Catherine, and William.

Graveside funeral services will be held, Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 4:00pm at Zion United Methodist Church cemetery, with Reverend W.H. Frizzell and Revenend Jimmy Tatum officiating.

Pallbearers will be Edward Brandon Tharp, Kenneth Tharp, Jr., William Brent Limer, Ken Niedomanski, Chip Cook, and Donald Reaves. Honorary pallbearers will be senior members of Zion United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends at the home located at 296 Old Town Creek Road, N.E., Leland, N.C.

Mr. Tharp will lie in state at White Funeral and Cremation Service, 603 Ocean Hwy., Supply, Friday evening from 4 til 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9am. Until 2p.m. prior to the funeral service.
