

John Michael Powell Senior, 83, of Holden Beach, NC, serenely entered into his heavenly home on December 7th, 2013. He is survived by his Wife- Barbara Powell, Brother-Joe Powell, Children- Susie Powell, Becky Powell, Tammy Powell Lamb, Gailey Powell, and John Powell II. Grandchildren- Johnathan Robertson, Cassie Powell-Adam, and Farrah Lamb. Great-Grandchildren- Bensley Adam and McKayla Robertson. Step-Children- Doug Adams, Marsha Hale, Teresa Cipolla, and Rhonda Mallery. Step Grandchildren- Shawn Adams, Corey Ramsey, Andy Burkett, and Lane Burkett.
John was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 20th, 1930 to the late Mike and Martha Powell; He joined the Air force the age of 17. First Master Sargent Powell was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam War. During his time enlisted he was decorated with six medals of Honor while receiving his College Degree in English. Serving an honorable 23 years John retired as a Flight Engineer; then became the Owner and Operator of several Texaco Stations and A-1 Towing Service in the High Point and Thomasville area. John had many friends and never met a stranger; he was dedicated to his family, work, and loved our country. He enjoyed keeping up with politics and the world news. He was an active member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and appreciated living a Christian way of life. He was liked, loved, and respected by all. He will be sorely missed.
An Honorable ceremony with Family and Friends will be held at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Services located at 603 Ocean Hwy West Supply, NC, 28462 on Sunday, December 15th, 2013 at 2pm.
