“Uncle Joe” is survived by his sister Mary (Buster) Goldmetzer of New Jersey and many loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews from New York to California, and Canada to Mexico. He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Norma C. (nee) Moren and siblings Louis Martinez, Edward Martinez, Annette Palau, and Marty Gaglie.
“Uncle Joe” was born in Manhattan, NY on 5/12/1929 and after High School, joined the Army and served with the Occupation forces in Germany. After his Honorable discharge from the service, Joseph went on to graduate from Hofstra University. Joseph became the Credit Manager at Broadway Maintenance until he retired in 1996.
Family was the most important thing to Joe, and he was beloved by all. Joe was generous, kind, and loving and loved to build projects for his family with his incredible skills as a craftsman and carpenter.
“Uncle Joe” as he was known to his family, friends, and caregivers, beat covid last January, and decided to move to North Carolina at the end of February to be in the care of his Niece and Nephew. He loved to spend time on their patio watching life outside on the ponds and the golf course. In addition, Uncle Joe loved his new little friend Papi and encouraged the 10-pound dog to sit on his lap or bed at every turn and particularly when Joe was watching his beloved Yankees.
During his time in North Carolina, Uncle Joe enjoyed many visits from many family members from 8 months to 80 years old. He enjoyed wonderful care from a few agencies including Bright Star and Lower Cape Fear Life Care, a hospice care center, including nurses, social worker, CNAs, aides, and the volunteer Veterans of Brunswick County.
Uncle Joe had a full, rich, long life full of loving family, travel, fine dining, music, Broadway shows, and Aunt Norma! He would not want you to be sad, but joyful for him. Remember; To be absent from the body, is to be present with The Lord.
