

When someone is identified as a natural leader, certain images come to mind. First thoughts are of a no-nonsense, tough-minded, dedicated and disciplined person. This description accurately fits Alfred Delgado Ogo who was our patriarch of the family . He will be remembered as being highly organized, practical, realistic,loving and caring. He was a person who always carried a strong sense of duty with him throughout his life. Possessed with traditional “old school” morals, Alfred was an individual who clearly communicated to those around him just who he was and what he was all about. Everyone acquainted with Alfred knew him as a well-respected man who was a stable force in his community.
His parents were Exequiel and Mercedes Delgado Ogo. Alfred was raised in Yona, Guam. Even as a youngster, Alfred learned to be objective and decisive. His faith in the principles of authority and dependability was something that he carried with him throughout his life.
As a young boy, Alfred was able to put his natural abilities to work. Alfred was raised with 8 siblings. Alfred was the eldest of 9. He had 5 brothers; Benjamin, Antonio, Juan,Faustino and Ernesto and 3 sisters; Rosita, Ofemia and Linda. Alfred had an inborn appreciation for the order in the family, allowing for the oldest members to be the most respected and to take on the most responsibility. For Alfred, this was a natural order of life, one he gladly embraced.
Alfred was blessed with 4 children, two sons, Arnold and Gilbert and two daughters, Jeanette and Michelle. He was also blessed with eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Parish Joy, Javier II, Melanie, Kiana, Jenavee, Leila, Jessica, and Giselle. Two great grandchildren Javier III and Elias.
Being a hard worker who praised efficiency, Alfred was always striving to make improvements where they were necessary. He was able to analyze situations and problems, keeping everything and everyone on track. An excellent project supervisor, Alfred was a person who could quickly make decisions based on the information available. He worked cooperatively and expected the same from his colleagues. In both his personal and professional environments, Alfred upheld his standards. His primary occupation was a Naval Diesel Instructor. He was employed for Civil Service for 32 years. Alfred was a team player who certainly lived out the motto of “give me a job, and I will get it done.”
Alfred was an Naval veteran. His sense of duty helped lead him into the military where his understanding of rank, his willingness to abide by rules and regulations and his desire to follow orders was admired by his fellow service men and women. He served in the Navy from 1956-1976 and during his military service he was stationed in Japan, Hawaii, Alameda, San Diego and Great Lakes. Alfred saw action in Vietnam War. Through his hard work and dedication, he achieved the rank of Senior Chief. He received several awards recognizing his for his heroism, including a Navy Achievement Medal, Expert Rifleman Medal, Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon{Sharpshooter}, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam), Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal.
Being generous with his time and energy, Alfred liked to belong to a variety of groups and organizations. He was a vocal leader who enjoyed being a part of things. His desire to uphold traditions and his ability to take charge of any type of project made him a tremendous asset. Throughout his later years, Alfred was an active member of the St. Francis Yona Fiesta Group in San Diego and a member of the San Diego Chamorro Leadership Council.
Alfred was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of Alfred’s favorites was Taz, a Chow Chow and Koko, a Begal mix. They were best friends for Taz 12 years, Koko 10 years. His family was rounded out by his grandpup Koko Girl.
When Alfred’s retirement finally arrived in Navy 1976 and Civil Service 2009, he was well prepared. He used his critical evaluation skills to make sure that every detail had been preplanned and attended to. His new life involved relocating to San Diego after retiring from the Navy and he remained in San Diego after retiring from Civil Service. In retirement, he found new pleasure in bowling, attending senior lunch at the Sons and Daughters Guam Club, and going to the 'RANCH' (casino) with his love Terry.
He is survived by the love of his life of 51 years Terry Ogo; his children Arnold, Gilbert(Isobel), Jeanette and Michelle(Larry); his grandchildren Parish Joy, Javier II, Melanie, Kiana, Jenavee, Leila, Jessica, and Giselle: his great grandchildren Javier III and Elias. Services were held at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Alfred was laid to rest in Glen Abbey Mortuary in Bonita, CA.
All who knew him would agree that Alfred was a pillar of the community and had the biggest heart. He lived his life with his feet firmly on the ground. He had a strong work ethic, was pragmatic in his thoughts and acts, and constantly sought the means for self-improvement. He was willing to share his ideas and knowledge for the benefit of others, so that they could accomplish more in their lives. Alfred D. Ogo did his best to ensure that his family, friends, loved ones, co-workers, students and everyone whose life he touched was given the chance to become a better person.
