Angelina was one of the happiest babies you could ever meet. She was constantly smiling from the moment she woke up to the minute she went to bed and if you had the opportunity to see that smile it genuinely changed your life for the better. Angelina was gentle and loving and had a calmness to her. She loved to be around her cousins watching them play and interacting. She loved to pet her puppy and her kitties being gentle each time she touched them. She was smart, goofy, silly, and always sneakily tried to get out of therapy by luring her therapists with cuddles or pretending to be hungry.
Angelina, although young, made a large impact on her community near and far. She was diagnosed with Leigh Syndrome, a mitochondrial disease at 7 months old and even though this diagnosis was devastating, knowing was also a blessing. It allowed for her family to advocate for her, to shine a light to what her disease is, and it allowed them to live every day without regret, to cherish every moment no matter how small.
As we all prayed for a miracle, that Angelina would be cured, or at least to be healthy enough to leave the hospital, we all silently knew that she was already the miracle. She was the angel that lived among us silently teaching us about love and life.
In Angelina’s honor, if you would like to help kids and families like her, please consider making a donation to the Mito Research Fund at UC San Diego. Join her team “Angie’s Angels” and become an advocate for her. Become what Angie embodied and gave to others, hope.
If you are able please join us for services Friday April 12, 2019. We will come together at 9:30 at Victory Baptist Church and 1:00 at Glen Abbey Memorial Park. All are welcome.
