

Carlene was born in Capron, Oklahoma. Her family moved to Missouri and lived there for several years before moving to California when she was 9 years old.
Carlene took to music at an early age, studying piano and later the organ. She earned the Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts degrees in organ performance from San Diego State University.
She was a member of the American Guild of Organists and served the San Diego Chapter in many positions including Dean. She served as organist choirmaster in many churches in San Diego, La Mesa, Coronado, El Cajon, and the beach area.
Carlene was an avid needleworker and loved to enter in the County Fair annually. She received blue ribbons over the years in needlepoint, counted cross-stitch, knitting, and crocheting.
She was a big animal lover and had pets all of her life. Her most recent pets included three cats, three Chihuahuas, and an aquarium of fish.
Carlene was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert Befort. Together they had three children, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Services will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral in San Diego on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11:00 am, with a viewing and organ performances beginning at 10:30. Reception in the Great Hall of the Cathedral and burial at Glen Abbey will immediately follow the service.
