

Dr. James Doo Howi Koo was born on October 15, 1940 in South Korea, the son of Sumoon Ikseo and Si Yoo Koo. James was raised in Kongu, South Korea with two siblings, two brothers, Kwon Howi Koo and Tae Howi Koo. James enjoyed his college years, which may have been a challenge with all of the academics, responsibilities, and the sudden freedom that accompanied them, but James was able to manage the balancing act. He earned his Bachelor in Arts degree from Dankook University in 1964 and Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science degree from California Christian University in 1972. On December 14, 1964, James exchanged wedding vows with Yon Sook Lee in South Korea. James was blessed with three children, two daughters, Suzan and Dixie, and one son Robert. Another blessing for James was the gift of three grandchildren, seven year old Keilan, five year old Kyler and one and a half year old Paul. James enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. He loved Golfing, horticulture, traveling and community service. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others. James passed away on March 12, 2014 in Vista, California, due to natural causes. He is survived by His wife Yon Sook Koo, his daughters Suzan Koo-Mahathirath and Dixie Koo, his son Robert Koo, and his grandsons Keilan Mahathirath, Kyler Mahathirath and Paul Koo. Simply stated, Dr. James Doo Howi Koo was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. James leaves behind the legacy of his loving family, life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember him.
