

Everyone’s life is the sum total of all of the people they have met, the things they have done, the places they have gone to. Edwin Hugo Tirona Coquico was no exception. He was a friend, a son, a brother, a husband, a father, someone special and very much loved. To family and friends who knew him best, Edwin will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Edwin’s life journey began on October 19, 1953. He first greeted the world in Cavite City, Philippines. HIs parents' names were Leonardo de Jesus Coquico and Estelita Monzon Tirona. He was raised with eight siblings, Leonard, Eileen, Lawrence, Marlyn, Tana, Joe, Gene and Jackie. Edwin was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his family sharing many life experiences over the years. Edwin was a typical teenager who had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He graduated from Cavite National High School in 1972. He continued his education by attending Feati University where he earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. In additional, he later attended San Diego State University to study Refrigeration and Air-conditioning. Falling in love is a huge milestone for any person. Just knowing that you have met that special someone is magical. Edwin experienced that with Raquel Cantorna and the couple exchanged wedding vows on March 19, 2005. The wedding took place in the Ramada Inn in San Diego, California. Empathic and loyal, Edwin was committed to making his new family happy. While everything a person does in life contributes to who they grow into, it is ultimately this same person who holds the most influence on the next generation. Edwin was blessed with 7 children, Reuven, Michel, Genesis, John, Ariel, Christian and Jeremiah. Later on, Edwin was blessed with the gift of two grandchildren, Michael and Gerald. How a person performs in the workplace can be a reflection on how they live their life. Fortunately, Edwin enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Edwin worked diligently and did his best to succeed in each of his occupations. Edwin worked at UCLA as Operating Engineer for seven years. Edwin’s many accomplishments included a Sanyo Scientific Refrigeration Service Training Course, UCLA Staff Achievement Award, Perfect Attendance Awards for 2006 and 2008, California Energy Commission, Operating Training Program, Associations of Facilities & Plant Operating Engineers, and a Service Award for County of San Diego. A person's hobbies often mirror who they have become. Edwin enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in a number of different activities, including dancing, playing the drum, fixing cars, cooking, and he loved his music. Edwin left us on August 10, 2011. He passed away in Sun City, California. The cause of death was due to cancer. He is survived by his wife Raquel, his children, Reuven, Michel, Genesis, John, Ariel, Christian and Jeremiah, his grandchildren Michael and Gerald, and his brothers and sisters Leonard, Lawrence, Gene, Eileen, Marlyn, Tana, Joe and Jackie. Services were handled by Glen Abbey Mortuary. A funeral service was held at The Little Chapel of the Roses in Bonita, California on Sunday, August 21, 2011. So this is Edwin’s life, the sum of the man that he became. Simply stated, Edwin was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being caring and giving, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Edwin leaves behind him a legacy of lifelong friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life Edwin touched will always remember him with a smile.
