Epifania Maramba Ramos was born on July 12, 1930 in Bonuan Dagupan City, Pangasinan, Philippines. She was the daughter of Juan Maramba and Celistina Prado. On December 4, 1946 she married Macario Ramos and had one daughter, Linda Maramba Ramos, on December 6, 1949. Epifania lived her life raising her daughter, Linda, and stepchildren, Luis, Boy, Mely, and Victor, in the Philippines. She later came to the United States on July 4, 1980 to join her daughter, Linda, and her son-in-law, Armando Caragan. They lived in the city of San Diego, California. When she arrived in the US, she was given the name “Granny”. At the time Granny helped raise her two small grandchildren, Christopher and Michelle, while Armando served in the United States Navy and Linda worked for a defense contractor. Later in the early 1980’s, Alexander and Tiffany were born and Granny helped raise her grandchildren in the city of Chula Vista, California. Granny was known for her love of children and often offered to babysit just to be with them.
Granny became a United States citizen in the year 1997 and continued to live in Chula Vista. She was an active parishioner at the Church of the Most Precious Blood and a member of the Dagupan City Club of San Diego. Epifania was also an active member of a Filipino senior citizens social group in San Diego. She was crowned Ms. California, Mrs. Dagupan City, and Ms. San Diego to name of few. Granny supported numerous Filipino social communities and often travel back home to the Philippines to visit. Granny was proud of her Filipino heritage.
In 2000, her grandaughter Michelle married Karl Manly. They gave birth to Granny’s first great grandchild, Elijah David, in 2004. It brought great joy for Granny to be able to watch a small child again. In 2008, Granny was blessed with another great grandchild, Mikaela Rhianne. Granny’s eldest grandson, Christopher and his wife Mareike, also blessed Granny with another great grandchild, Rebecca. Granny loved her great grandchildren dearly and was very happy to be around little ones once again.
Granny was loved by many and lived a very happy and blessed life. She enjoyed being around people, babysitting children, watching wrestling on TV, Wheel of Fortune, All My Children, opening presents at Christmas time, playing the card game “taung”, going to Viva Las Vegas and enjoying pandesal. Granny also truly loved the color RED….A LOT……..and she wore the color everyday with a smile in her heart. She was a giving mother, a loving grandmother, a blessed great grandmother, a carefree cousin, a giving aunt, an understanding sister and a wonderful, vibrant, thoughtful and caring friend who will never be forgotten.
We thank Granny for the many great memories and the strong love she has given to each of us. We love you and may you rest in peace.
