Eulalia Cuneta Sanchez was born on February 12, 1927 in Pasay City, Philippines by her parents Bruno Cuneta and Flora Vergel de Dios Cuneta. Her one and only sibling was Claudia Cuneta BELINO who predeceased her September 20, 2020.
Eulalia also known to her circle of friends as Lily and as Ayang to her hometown friends and relatives was simply a housewife and stayed home mom from the beginning of her marriage to Cirilo Aguilar Sanchez whom she married July 21, 1945. They had 3 children. Antonieta being the eldest followed by Aurora and Cirilo “Boy” Jr. as the youngest.
Eulalia devoted her simple humbling life as a wife and as a mother to her 3 children. These gave her ample times of developing her skill of cooking for everyone. It was a great passion that everyone enjoyed and continued to do so on her later years.
Eulalia was given an opportunity to come to the States in 1976. Like everyone else’s dream .. setting foot in America .. surely fulfill her dream as well. Then in 1981, her spouse Cirilo Sr. after retiring from Philippine Airlines followed her to the States and both reunited once again.
When their own grandchildren became old enough to go to full time school, Eulalia and Cirilo Sr. moved out and found a place of their own in National City in 1986 and lived independently.
Eulalia found a new job. She became a nanny to so many children to earn a living. Needless to say .. these kids grew up liking soupy sinigang and soupy chicken or beef nilaga all their growing years.
Eulalia was deprived of attaining higher education during the Japanese War in the Philippines but she attained the highest recognition of talent in cooking. It was this excellent talent that put her in high regard pedestal of making and attaining good circle of friends - friendship through sharing of foods that she cooked.
She built an empire of friendship. She never forgets to appreciate everyone whether it’s a doctor, a dentist, nurses, next door neighbors, peer group of senior citizens. She would cooked very good specialties and gifted them with her cooking - we call labor of love.
We gave her the title “The Kitchen Queen” and as her health status continued to deteriorate .. it was always food that we talked about and it was good food that helped her sustained the last 3 1/2 years after the outbreak of Covid.
Eulalia now will be “The Heavenly Queen of the Kitchen” and it gives comfort that she is reunited with everyone in heaven.
She is survived by 2 children (Aurora Flores and spouse Honesto Flores & Cirilo Jr. (Boy) Sanchez and spouse Susan Sanchez), 5 grandchildren (Colyns Domantay and spouse Edgar Zosa, Benjie Domantay, Maita Boudreau and spouse Steven Boudreau, Christopher Sanchez and Abigail Domantay and spouse Marlon Pascua) and 6 great-grandchildren (Mariel Flores, Jasmine Delarosa, Madelyn Delarosa, Justin Delarosa, Chelsea Sanchez, Dray Pascua and Drew Pascua).
